Uganda Government represented by the Ministry of Works and Transport Permanent Secretary Mr. Bageya Waiswa and MS Orascom Construction Company from Egypt have signed a memorandum of Understanding.

The MOU is to allow the company to undertake an 18-month feasibility study for a possible Light Rail Transit (LRT)/Monorail system in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

The study will assess a modern mass transit system to improve mobility along Kampala–Entebbe, Kampala–Kira and Kampala–Wakiso corridors

This proposal comes from President Musevenis visit to Egypt in August 2025 where he met with Egyptian form Orascom construction to explore solutions for kampalas traffic congestion including light rail, elevated mono rail and underground metro lines.

The feasibility study will examine technical, financial and environmental considerations before any final decision is made on whether Uganda will proceed with the construction of an urban rail system.

But Uganda is worse when it comes to the transportation industry, All East African Countries are the same, But Kenya and Rwanda are trying.
