Ugandan Lecturer Strips In Protest
A Ugandan lecturer's naked protesting has caused an uproar in the country.
Dr Stella Nyanzi of the Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) srtripped naked after she was asked to vacate her office.
According to Uganda's Daily Monitor newspaper, Nyanzi undressed and took pictures and a video clip of herself that she posted on her Facebook wall
The Daily Monitor said MISR locked the office because Nyanzi had reportedly refused to teach MISR’s PHD students.
News reports said Uganda's ethics minister, Simon Lokodo, ordered police to arrest Nyanzi.
In a long post on her Facebook wall Nyanzi defended her naked protest.
“Those that say I am a disgrace to African womanhood because of my bold crassiness and explicit uses of sexual modes of expression are silly, myopic and dishonest. They should come see me throwing open my legs wide and apart as I kwawuza to enthusiastically cheering crowds watching me dance the Nankasa- Muwogola of my descendants.”
The Vice Chancellor of Kampala’s Makerere University, Prof John Dduma-Ssentamu, has formed a five-member ad-hoc committee which has until Friday to investigate the circumstances surrounding Nyanzi’s decision, first to chain herself to a railing, and later to strip down to her knickers on Monday, The Daily Monitor reported.
