As of January 18th 2026, public internet access was restored in Uganda. This follows the announcement of the incumbent president of the country, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa, as the winner of the recently concluded 2026 presidential election with a whooping 71.65%. Making this his seventh term in office.
A leaked document revealed that the Uganda communications commission had issued a directive to all internet service providers to shutdown internet access to the public on the 13th of January 2026 at exactly 1800 hours.
Although the director of the Uganda communications commission denied the existence of the directive, at exactly 1800 hours on 13th January, internet access to the public was blocked in Uganda until January 18th.
