TWO people died while 47 passengers were seriously injured in a road accident which involved a bus owned by Abood Bus Company and a motorcycle, that occurred near TAMCO at Maili Moja in Kibaha District, Coast Region on Tuesday.

The Coast Regional Police Commander (RPC) Absalom Mwakyoma, told the ‘Daily News' over the telephone ' that a motorcyclist and his passenger died on the spot, after they were knocked down by the bus bound for Morogoro at 8:15 in the morning.

"The accident was caused by the motorcyclist who turned abruptly to the left without indicating any sign," the RPC explained.

He said Abood bus with Registration Number T 588 AYM overturned after knocking down the motorcycle with registration number T 616 DLF, saying the bus and the motorcycle were heading to the same direction.

He mentioned the names of the deceased as Hamis and his passenger Lucy Magauza, believed to be between 25 and 30 years, saying Lucy was a student at the Public Service College in Tabora and was in Kibaha for internship.

"The injured passengers were rushed to Tumbi Hospital and three of them were referred to Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH). Another 44 were treated and discharged," he said.

The three who were referred to MNH included Songelahela Shila (40), an employee with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Sheila Saidi (80) of Morogoro and Hamisi Magola (35) of Dar es Salaam.

The RPC said police were looking for the driver of the bus who ran away after the accident. Meanwhile, a man who was identified as John Mgawe (37), died after he was electrocuted while placing an advert on a billboard near DSTV office at Ada Estate, in Kinondoni District on Monday.

According to Kinondoni Regional Police Commander (RPC) Charles Kenyela, Mr Mgawe touched a high voltage wire with a tape measure when trying to establish the size of the billboard. He said Mgawe died on the way to Mwananyamala Hospital.
