Wansika Bosco taking the breathalyzer test
Police have detained a bus driver after he was allegedly found driving under the influence of alcohol at the Maya checkpoint along the Kampala Masaka highway.
The driver, identified as Wansika Bosco, who was driving bus registration number UAY 458F, was arrested during an enforcement operation and remains in custody pending his appearance in court.
Police said Bosco will be produced before court to answer charges related to drunk driving.
In a separate operation at Njeru, three school bus drivers were also intercepted for allegedly driving without valid badges issued by the Ministry of Works and Transport.
The three drivers were detained and are expected to appear in court tomorrow.
Police have warned bus and school bus drivers against violating traffic regulations, stressing that driving under the influence of alcohol puts passengers, pedestrians and other road users at serious risk.
Authorities have also urged all public service and school bus drivers to ensure they possess valid badges and comply with traffic laws and safety requirements.
