Police have arrested three suspects in connection with a robbery and rape incident in which two women were allegedly sexually assaulted multiple times after armed men broke into a salon where they were sleeping in Wakiso District.
The incident occurred last Friday at Bujjasi Cell, Maya Ward, Kyengera Town Council.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects broke into a salon in Nsangi where three women were sleeping. The assailants allegedly stole mobile phones and cash before sexually assaulting two of the victims.
Police launched investigations immediately after the incident and obtained leads that helped detectives identify and apprehend three suspects.
Owoyesigyire said an identification parade was conducted on August 17, 2026, in accordance with the law. Two of the victims reportedly identified one of the suspects, leading to the arrest of the other two.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether other people were involved.
The incident comes amid continued concern over robbery in Uganda. According to the 2025 Police Crime Report, 7,863 robbery cases were reported in 2025, down from 8,163 cases in 2024, representing a 3.7% decrease.
The report also recorded an increase in aggravated robbery, with 2,101 cases reported in 2025 compared with 1,968 in 2024, representing a 6.7% rise.
Robberies involving cash recorded one of the sharpest increases, rising from 573 cases in 2024 to 786 in 2025, a 37.2% increase.
Kampala Metropolitan Police recorded the highest number of robbery cases. KMP North registered 1,007 cases, followed by KMP South with 779 and KMP East with 669.
Outside Kampala, Rwizi recorded 567 cases while North Kyoga registered 429.
At divisional level, Kawempe recorded the highest number of cases with 289, followed by Katwe with 222, Jinja Road with 212, Kira with 186, Kabalagala with 183 and Kasangati with 171.
Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant as investigations into the Kyengera incident continue.
