It was a scene straight out of Wakaliwood.
During a surprise inspection by Hoima District Chairperson Uthuman Mugisha Kadiri at Kabaale Public Primary School, a stand-in teacher dramatically fled through a classroom window. The inspection uncovered a scheme where the official teacher, Joseline Atugonza, allegedly hired a villager, Madrine Wembabazi Rahuma, to teach and sign attendance registers in her absence.
When officials began investigating, Rahuma jumped out the window and disappeared into a bush. Kadiri has since ordered the arrest of Atugonza and the school's head teacher for absenteeism and using an unauthorized person, while the deputy head teacher has given a statement.
