Tanzania tops Africa in nighttweets

Tanzanians’ peculiar
interest in social media activity has
propelled them to the forefront and has
been ranked Number One in Africa among
those who tweet most at night.
The latest report entitled ‘How Africa
Tweets’ also shows that Kiswahili is in the
top five languages used on twitter by the
millions of subscribers to this social media
platform

Twitter is an online social networking and
micro-blogging service that enables users
to send and read “tweets”, which are text
messages limited to 140 characters.
According to the study by Nairobi-based
Portland and Tweetminster, Tanzanians,
even though not the most avid twitters,
surpassed all the major African cities (by
population) studied when it came to the
number of tweets sent between midnight
and six in the morning, rising to 12pm.
In fact, the report which was released last
week shows that the number of
Tanzanians who tweet at night was higher
than those who used the service during
the day, to suggest users may be deploying
the service more to chat and connect with
