Well driven trade? Driven by who? lolJust include yourself among those without political will otherwise don't act as if you are not partisan to their interests. We all know how increase in well driven trade can benefit a country. I think a change in perception is needed and not referundum
I have to frankly ask you is this true? Why kenya against Tanzania? However, you have said one point which is true, The presidents of three East African states are not meeting eye to eye, which begs us to admire the Mkapa, Moi & M7 administration. Diplomatic relations were not strained then between Mkapa, M7, & Moi. But now btn Kibaki,Kikwete, and Kaguta what is not going right? Mostly that is the reason why the bottlenecks are becoming rampant because they are not addressed or what do you think.?
Readers comments at the Nation, some of Kenyan readers r seeing the hypocrisy of some reports that r biased

Kenya is just as bad if not worse when it comes to bribes and extorting from business by police, KRA, KPA,KPC etc. I am talking from experience, Uganda is a little better and South sudan is another jungle where drivers even get killed sometimes by the SPLA.

Olenguitui,Thats not the language you use against neighbours. It is not even worth being published. While i dont support NTBs, i think looking at roadblocks alone can not be a measure enough. between Nairobi and Meru (240km) you will encounter not less than 4 roadblocks and tens of police checks. Namanga to Dar es Salaam (750km) you will encounter less than 5 roadblocks and less than 5 police check points. Who is fooling who ? i am a Kenyan.

At times i fail to understand motives behind this kind of reports! So does it mean that police check points and weight bridge are more trade hindrance than Protectionism could hamper global recovery - Money Markets |businessdailyafrica.com and Fresh trade war looms in EA over wheat exports - News |theeastafrican.co.ke. Or the known fact that Kenya is more corrupt than the rest on the global corruption Index? Have u guys forgot what happened when police check points were removed earlier in 2000s in Northern cities of Arusha and Moshi that forced an immediate re-introduction of Police check points! How about overloading by trucks!? should our roads not be protected?

Truth be told that Tanzanians are usually uneasy with foreigners, including fellow East Africans. There is an unspoken suspicion on what are you upto and how is it going to benefit wazalendo. It didnt help either that the largest armed robbery in the history of their nation was pulled by Kenyans whose case is still on going.Kenya will have to learn to live with a neighbor who doesnt like you!

why not just leave them out of EAC? alternatively impose same barriers for them as well.

It is high time the rest of EAC cooperating countries do something about TZ.It is like the current government in TZ see EAC common market as not beneficial, or what else best explains Tanzania's behaviour?? Personally, I find TZ behaviour really backward, they treat Kenyans like criminals.

What do you expect. These people have no idea how to do business and they don't want others to chip in.

A truck gets stopped TEN times in a single trip in TZ?!?! That is a perfect breeding environment for corruption and the exponential increase in the cost of doing business.

n still u expect all 39 mio. kenyans to contribute! If literacy is 85-90% (estimation with the WB data)? Here is your answer

Mzalendo,
..nadhani tatizo la hii community ni kwamba ime-base on COMPETITION among member states na siyo UNDUGU.
..niliwahi kusema haya kabla hujaanza kuchangia humu, lakini wengi[on kenyan side] wakaniona mtu wa ajabu.
..wananchi wa East Africa r not encouraged to respect each respect each other, let alone care about one another.
..member states[governments] r trying to out smart one another, instead of working together to make sure each country is getting a fair share or deal.
..competition is good, but it should not get to the point where it becomes ugly and threatens the very existence of the community. Competition should encourage professionalism, efficiency, and other things which move the community forward in a positive direction.
..It is very unfortunate kwamba so far chuki, dharau, na matusi, r a common thing among citizens of EAC.
NB:
..diplomatic relations btn Moi and M-7 were not good prior to 1995.
..siku Mkapa anakuwa sworn in, Moi alimsalimia Mwalimu Nyerere huku akimu-ignore M-7. Mwalimu Nyerere who was seated btn the two presidents akawaelekeza washikane mikono and the entire stadium wakashangilia. Walipofika Ikulu Moi,M-7,na Mkapa, ndiyo wakaazimia ku-revive the EAC.
..but i have to agree with u that the relationship among our Presidents r not good. This is not the relationship that Mwalimu had with the likes of Kaunda,Samora,Obote etc. tatizo nadhani linarudi kulekule kwamba kila kiongozi anajaribu kumzidi mahesabu na kuwa mjanja-mjanja zaidi ya mwenzake.
Yes! If we are going to go by the select comments introduced by Geza Ulole to paint Kenyans as hateful, I expect 39 million comments before reaching that conclusion.
HAHA   you guys dont get this?
umesahau Uganda kwa jedwali lako, Tz mtalalama hadi lini? We dont need a mind reset mkuu, its pure competition and if you cant sustain a barrage of Kenyan domination the only thing to do is to shut out your markets. Infact Kenyans arent bothered with what transpires inside Tz, we made a deal to scrap border cumbersomeness. Kenyans dont charge you these petty levies, why should you? Its a competitive world we leave in. If Tanzania had superior products, Dar would never lose business to Mombasa or you feeling threatened by Kenya toying with an airport in Taveta. Its the reinvention in your mindsets that is needed. arrogance doesnt take a night to florish. if facts are laid out and you keep disputing them, decisions arrived then you bankroll on them its most likely a possible consequence is arrogance and despise. Dont blame Kenya on EAC woes, infact Kenya hosts the biggest trade corridor that serves EAST and CENTRAL AFRICA with this implying that we will lose business on full implementation of EAC. However no authority is complaining, EAC will reward in better ways in the long term and its appetizing. a symbiotic relationship for the EAC member states. Meanwhile Kenya is busy thinking outside the natural EAC partner states by tapping to markets such as Ethiopia and SS. Why do tanzanians feel threatened by EAC? Ugandans are good, rwandans perfect...but Tanzania.
mbona msiondoe police check point in the Eastern province? si Somalia ipo IGAD?
Anyway you are silly to insinuate we scrap check points on Kenyas N.Eastern province, its actually a defacto terror cell so forget it plus thats not even a transport corridor.
