TANZANIA and Malawi plan to go back to the negotiation table on October 27, this year, in a bid to find an amicable solution to the border dispute that is currently threatening to jeopardize diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Lake Nyasa has been a source of disagreements since colonial times, which were rekindled recently when Malawi claimed ownership of the whole lake and allowed gas and oil exploration in the lake.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr John Haule, said they were optimistic that the forthcoming talks will help to permanently solve the conflict.
"We had planned to have talks with Malawian officials, over the lake, between October 10 and 15, this year, but due to some circumstances we failed, we are therefore prepared for the talks on October 27, this year," Mr Haule said.
In early October, the President of Malawi Ms Joyce Banda made an order calling off discussions with Tanzania before threatening to take the matter to another level - the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
However, Malawi later withdrew its decision on taking the matter to ICJ and agreed to return to the negotiation table with Tanzania.
Early this week, news that were later categorically refuted as baseless spread that the Malawian government had given Tanzanian High Commissioner to that country, Mr Patrick Tsere, 48 hours to vacate the country amid escalating border dispute between the two neighbours.

Malawi has baseless claims. It is upon them to solve this dispute, since Tanzania knows well its borders. In that we and I agree to support and defend my country by all means till my last blood drop.

it is a sad story that we are pursuing this path because of misleadingS from the colonialists. IT IS Very unfortunate we have been hooked to believe we deserve on the basis of unilateral agreements. we can not claim right on something that is creating harm to any one among us . This is one of the cardinal sins that were committed by the colonial powers. Now we agree to disagree at the expense of our own fate . It is very difficult to muzzle any one among us except wisdom should prevail. Withdrawal from pursuing her motives to claim lake nyasa can be accepted unabated. Tzanians should go to the table with precautions bearing in mind certain assumptions regarding her unpredictable behaviour. Yes we agree to go to the table of negotiations not because we are going to gain but because the matter is going to gain some strides towards permanent solution to a century puzzle between malawi and tanganyika. In 1917 my great grandfather was caught a war captive by the British army when the Germans lost the battle. he spent three years in Nyasaland as a war prisoner at Zomba high command prison until he was released in 1919. this sad scenario takes me to a very gloomy situation as we are heading towards 2017 to 2019 when we shall be celebrating 100 years after he had been released. PLEASE MADAM PRESIDENT STOP THIS SATANIC MOTIVE. WE ARE AFRICANS OF THE SAME ANCESTOR LET US SHARE THE RESOURCE. REMEMBER OUR RIVERS FROM LIVINGSTONE RANGES POURS MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF LITERS OF WATER FREE OF CHARGE. IF YOU CONSIDER A UNILETRAL OWNERSHIP WE SHALL ASK YOU TO PAY FOR EVERY LITER OF H2O THAT ENTERS LAKE NYASA . FAILURE TO DOSO SO WE WILL CONSTRUCT DAMS UPHILLS TO PREVENT ANY DROP OF WATER INTO YOUR LAKE SO THAT AT THE END THE LAKE DRIES OFF. DO YOU CNSIDER ANY POINT IN DOING SO. Weigh OUT BEFORE it is too late TIME
