You can see most of the Taifa Stars can't even handle basic skills that they should have been taught when they started playing at a young age. Each premier league team should be required to setup an under 20 team and there should be an under 20 league. Experienced youth coaches should be brought in to train kids with potential from like under 14 and higher. Schools should in different regions should have leagues, in the same way as college football or basketball....etc etc... There has to be a more professional approach to the game, with nutritionist, weight trainers, etc.

I could go on forever but the gist of it is simple. WE NEED TO INVEST IN YOUTH FOOTBALL!!!! it is expensive but there are no shortcuts to success.

FORMER national soccer team coach, Marcio Maximo, has confirmed his desire to make a sensational return to train the Taifa Stars, if the government will want him back.

Speaking to this reporter, Maximo, who met the Prime Minister’s delegation, currently on official tour in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, revealed that he was in talks with one of the Brazilian clubs, but he would prefer a return to Tanzania instead if the offer comes up.

“I don’t have any problem (to return to Tanzania) and if President Kikwete (Jakaya) or Pinda (Prime Minister) will want me back, I will unreservedly because I love Tanzania, I did a lot to build the current national team,” said Maximo.

He added: “I understand that Tenga (Leodegar- the TFF President) cannot call for my services at the moment as TFF has a contract with another coach but if Kikwete or Pinda would ask him to, I hope he will.”

Maximo, leading a new life back in his native Brazil, has been sorely missed in the Tanzania since he departed in July 2010 having won a reputation of reviving the country’s football.

His charisma and wit won him many admirers during his four years in the country and is credited for instilling professionalism and discipline among national team players.

Danish Jan Borge Poulsen, 64, the current Taifa Stars trainer, was appointed to take over from the Brazilian. Maximo seemingly faulted his successor’s tendency to embrace ''old'' players because they are plying their business abroad, while ignoring emerging young players.

He said: “Now you’re leaving out young players who need to be promoted and instead you are giving chances to aged players who are remained with only two years on the game.”

Maximo was shocked on hearing that Mrisho Ngasa has been spending a lot of time on the Stars bench under Poulsen’s regime, whilst he is one of the best players the country has. He warned that keeping the mercurial winger out would only harm his talent.

“We need to pay attention to young players’ potential and promote them, look I spotted Mbwana Samata and put him in the Taifa Stars squad, he’s now playing professional football, those are benefits of keeping faith on young players,” bragged Maximo.

Maximo said changing players was not bad but killing of the philosophy that requires the promotion of grassroots football was.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda and his delegation paid a visit to one of the world’s largest stadium, Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro, where he was able to see renovations and upgrades taking place at the 82,238-seater stadium in preparations for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, the 2014 World Cup, the 2015 Copa America, the 2016 Summer Olympics, and the 2016 Summer Paralympics.

While at the Estádio do Maracanã, Pinda had a glimpse of memorable records such as footprints of Brazilian football legends including Edson Arantes dos Nascimento-Pele and Pele's 1000th career goal for Santos against Vasco on 19 November 1969 and the net that was used on that match.

The delegation also witnessed a statue of football legend Arthur Antunes Coimbra, better known as Zico, who is the top scorer in Maracanã Stadium's history, having scored 500 goals.

THE Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has blasted Mainland Premier League teams, which overlook U-20 players during the league assignments.

The federation’s statistics official, Sabry Mtulla, said the league’s giants, Simba and Yanga, in particular, have been ignoring the youngsters whenever the duo line up their respective squads for the matches, although they have registered them for the league.

“Simba and Yanga have not less than five U-20 players in their respective squads but they do not give the youngsters opportunity to showcase their talents although the players have great potential,” said Mtulla.

He said premier league teams that deploy the U-20 stars regularly, in contrast, have gained substantially from the move as the players have particularly been excelling in goal scoring.

He said TFF has, time and again, been reaching agreement with Simba and Yanga on the use of their respective U-20 players in the league but the two teams have not been honouring the agreement.

Mtulla noted that the two teams have been recruiting the U-20 youngsters to simply abide by the league rules but they seldom use the players in matches.

TFF is one of the institutions under the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, which are showcasing their activities at Butiama village in Musoma, as part of celebrations to mark 50 years of the Mainland Tanzania independence.[/TD]

Morocco sealed qualification for the African Cup of Nations 2012 after beating Tanzania on Sunday in the sixth and final round of the qualifiers. Marouane Chamakh opened the scoring in the 21st minute, Adel Taarabt doubled the lead on an excellent free kick in the 71[SUP]st[/SUP]minute and Mbark Boussoufa completed the rout in the 90[SUP]th[/SUP]minute.
Abdi Khassim Sadala scored the visitors’ consolation goal in the 40[SUP]th[/SUP]minute.


In the other match of the Group D, Algeria defeated Central African Republic 2-0 courtesy to goals from Hassan Yebda and Foued Kadir on 3 and 29 minutes.
Morocco claim the top spot with 11 points three ahead of Algeria and Central African Republic while Tanzania are bottom with just five points.
Sudan also qualified for the finals as one of the two second-best placed teams in the qualifiers.
