Court of Appeal Judge Justice Aggrey Muchelule has been connected to a Beretta weapon that detectives found after a deadly gunfight with a violent robbery suspect in Joska, Machakos County.
The judge informed authorities on July 14 that it wasn't until detectives phoned him to inform him that his Beretta pistol, serial number H20930Y, had been confiscated in Athi River South Sub-County on Monday evening, July 13, 2026, that he realised it was gone from his tightly guarded Kitusuru residence.
Muchelule stated that he does not typically carry the gun in a police report that was submitted at the Spring Valley police station.
The firearm was used by criminals to conduct the July 4 heist at the Chaiiwali restaurant on General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley, Westlands, according to ongoing investigations.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) worked together to track down a crucial suspect, Vincent Ochieng, to a Joska residential hiding, which led to the breakthrough.
After barricading himself inside the house and shooting at the encircling policemen, Ochieng—who police claim was a part of a deadly criminal ring operating around Nairobi, Kiambu, and Machakos—was murdered in a fierce gunfight. The loaded Beretta, additional ammunition, and multiple cell phones were all left behind.
A comprehensive investigation is already ongoing to ascertain the precise circumstances under which the jurist misplaced the pistol.
Later, detectives from the DCI Criminal Research and Investigation Bureau confirmed the firearm belonged to the Court of Appeal judge.
As a massive manhunt for Ochieng's surviving accomplices intensifies, the firearm is undergoing additional specialised ballistic testing to look for connections to other unsolved crimes, despite Justice Muchelule's insistence that he was completely unaware of the security breach at his home until the police notification.
