Social media posts claim Nyandarua Senator John Methu was arrested and handcuffed days after publicly confronting President William Ruto during a funeral in April 2026.

A review of the images circulating online shows they do not depict Methu's arrest in 2026. Reverse image searches traced the photos to July 27, 2025, when police clashed with politicians allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Kigumo, Murang’a County.
The images were
published by local media outlets at the time and were also
shared by Methu himself, who described the incident as a police confrontation during a political event. The photos therefore predate the April 2026 claims by several months.
Further checks found no credible reports from authorities or reputable news organizations confirming Methu's alleged arrest. In addition, the senator remained publicly active on social media and appeared in
media interviews and public events after the date he was supposedly detained.
So, the viral posts misrepresent old images from a 2025 political confrontation and provide no evidence that Senator John Methu was arrested in April 2026.
