Kenyans have been reassured by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission that their voter registration is still intact, citing a routine upgrading of its ICT infrastructure as the reason for the temporary unavailability of its online voter verification portal.
The explanation comes after several Kenyans expressed alarm on social media on Tuesday that their voter registration information had been deleted after they submitted their national ID numbers on the voter verification portal and received a "Search results not found" notice.
The Commission stated in a statement that the current system overhaul is intended to enhance the overall performance, security, and dependability of its digital services. The IEBC claims that requests for modifications to voter registration details, voter transfer services, and public voter search services accessible via its online verification site have all been momentarily impacted by the exercise.
"The Commission wishes to inform stakeholders and members of the public that we are currently undertaking a routine upgrade of our ICT systems to enhance reliability, security and performance of our services," the IEBC stated, assuring the public that voter registration at its 290 constituency offices, Huduma Centers, and the Customer Experience Center at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi has not been impacted and is proceeding as planned.
The public will be informed as soon as the maintenance operation is finished and regular online services are resumed, it further stated.
