RIYADH — The Ministry of Interior has warned Saudi citizens against traveling to the east African countries of Tanzania and Burundi to recruit domestic workers before official channels are open for the purpose after the completion of all legal procedures.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, Muhammad Al-Marool, director general of the Department of Public Relations and Media at the Ministry of Interior, said the ministry received a notification from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stating that the relevant authorities in Tanzania and Burundi are investigating some Saudi travelers accused of involvement in human trafficking.
The charges leveled against the Saudis include operating in these countries without official government permits and recruiting and exporting domestic workers illegally.
If convicted, these citizens face imprisonment for human trafficking and violating the conditions of visit visas.
The ministry urged all citizens to take into account the laws and regulations prevalent in countries they visit and do not violate them under any circumstances.
