Code division multiple access (CDMA) is a [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_access_method"]channel access method[/ame] utilized by various radio communication technologies. It should not be confused with the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_phone_standards"]mobile phone standards[/ame] called cdmaOne and [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CDMA2000"]CDMA2000[/ame] (which are often referred to as simply "CDMA"), which use CDMA as an underlying [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_access_method"]channel access method[/ame].
One of the basic concepts in data communication is the idea of allowing several transmitters to send information simultaneously over a single communication channel. This allows several users to share a bandwidth of frequencies. This concept is called [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiplexing"]multiplexing[/ame]. CDMA employs spread-spectrum technology and a special coding scheme (where each transmitter is assigned a code) to allow multiple users to be multiplexed over the same physical channel. By contrast, [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_division_multiple_access"]time division multiple access[/ame] (TDMA) divides access by [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time"]time[/ame], while frequency-division multiple access (FDMA) divides it by [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency"]frequency[/ame]. CDMA is a form of [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spread_spectrum"]"spread-spectrum"[/ame] signaling, since the modulated coded signal has a much higher data bandwidth than the data being communicated.
An analogy to the problem of multiple access is a room (channel) in which people wish to communicate with each other. To avoid confusion, people could take turns speaking (time division), speak at different pitches (frequency division), or speak in different languages (code division). CDMA is analogous to the last example where people speaking the same language can understand each other, but not other people. Similarly, in radio CDMA, each group of users is given a shared code. Many codes occupy the same channel, but only users associated with a particular code can understand each other. source WIKIPEDIA

STATEMENT BY THE CEO OF DOVETEL MR CHRISTIAN ERLANDSEN ON THE OCCASION OF THE
ISSUING OF THE TELECOM LICENCE BY THE TCRA TO THE NEW PLAYER, DOVETEL
Thursday 26th of June 2008
Today is a great day! It is a great day for the government of Tanzania! It is a great day for the TCRA!
It is a great day for the shareholders of Dovetel and it is most certainly a great day for the people of
Tanzania who will be the benefi ciaries of the competitive environment that the introduction of the
New Player in Telecom will encourage. It is therefore, Prof. Nkoma, a great honour and privilege for
Dovetel to be here today and receive this license.
It took a long time to come to where we are today. Though nobody likes to wait, particularly if the
waiting is a little long, this wait has been worthwhile.
Thanks to the signifi cant development in technology since 2005, Dovetel will with this license
be able to introduce, world-leading state-of-the-art telecommunications system for all market
segments in Tanzania.
Dovetel is committed to go live early next year. We know this is a challenging schedule but it’s one
we have promised the TCRA, our owners and all our stake holders. So we will do everything we can
to deliver.
Prof. Nkoma, may I take this opportunity to sincerely thank the TCRA for the professional and
transparent manner of handling the bidding process. I would also like to thank the Board of Directors
of the TCRA for showing their confi dence by approving the recommendation of the Management to
award the Telecom license to Dovetel.
Dovetel represents the ideal mix of ownership that a country such as Tanzania can dream about. It
is composed of highly respected telecom specialists from the academia, representatives from the
Tanzanian society and a dedicated fi nancial fund committed to investing in infrastructure in Sub-
Sahara.
This has enabled Dovetel to start with a fully fi nanced business plan with the aim to become a
signifi cant player in the Tanzanian market.
I would also like to thank the owners and investors of Dovetel for choosing TMP as the management
and technical partner in the critical start up phase. TMP brings its expertise and experience from
around the globe, especially Africa, to this venture. On behalf of all shareholders I would again like to
say thank you.
And now you all know which operator to use in 2009…

i would say they are extremely smart mzee...,GSM is thing of the past!it is now treated as the god old friend who once served the world same way people treat walkman's and their good old tapes!!

CDMA is the future..,bind it with 3G then you have the best of both worlds,CDMA phones are bulky now..,it's only a matter of time before we can see them in TZ.,

u won't miss GSM for sure for it is the past..,CDMA,3G,4G...,are the future.,

often companies who build base and forget of the hot thing in the market strive in the long run.,
