AS | Benitez is more likely to become the 11th trainer to be let go under Perez than win the 11th European Cup.

-The number of injuries suffered by Madrid under Rafa is as a result of the players not responding well to Benitez's training sessions.

-Zidane wouldn't face the issue of getting the players on his side like Benitez, as he already commands the respect of the squad.

-Zidane wouldn't accept any job right now from anyone other than Real Madrid, should he be asked to lead the first team.

Summary of Florentino Perez's Press Conference

-"Zidane won't be replacing Benitez, no one will. It's invented by the media."

-"Mourinho returns? I can't see the future. At the moment I can tell you he won't be coming
because we already have a manager."

-"I have good memories of Mourinho. He raised our competitive level. We used to be eliminated in
the CL 2nd rounds for 5yrs!"

-"I am from Real Madrid. I have sacrificed much for this club as well. & when I go it'll be with a
clear conscience."

-"We brought Benitez to bring a new impulse to the team & that can't be expected in just 3 months."

-"Benitez is coach of the RM. We chose him from among many people because we believed it was appropriate at this time."

-"Pepe told me our manager is a great coach. Stories that the players don't get along with Rafa simply aren't true."

-"I call upon the fans not to trasmit that pressure. We have a great group of players who are professionals."

-"Even if Rayo win this Sunday we will still continue our work with Benitez. The last thing he needs is external pressure."

-"Last year we lost the titles by only some points. The season is long & we have all year to try & win. Nothing is over."

-"The press is creating an expectation that doesn't exist! Benitez was chosen to lift Real Madrid & he will do just that."

-"I have not spoken to change coach, I have not spoken to convene elections. I have the information."

-"We have a problem and I don't know why. We got the intensity, I don't know why. Ben?tez going
to fix. He has all the credit."

Real Madrid continue preparations ahead of the Rayo game

The squad trained at Real Madrid City and continued their preparations ahead of Sunday's La Liga clash with Rayo at the Santiago Bernab?u (4pm CET). Rafa Ben?tez called upon Real Madrid Castilla's Marcos Llorente and Lazo for a session in which Toni Kroos, recovered from flu, worked with the rest of the team. Dani Carvajal and Raphael Varane, who trained by themselves on the pitch, are still making their ways back from injury.

The intense training session got underway with a warm-up routine that incorporated ball work. Following on from that, the Real Madrid players carried out various possession and pressing drills before performing attack-defence exercises. The session concluded with some demanding games on a small-sized pitch.
