Casemiro back to being Zidane's midfield general
It is expected that Real Madrid will impress in the Club World Cup however the return of Casemiro as Zinedine Zidane's on-pitch general has been hugely important to the club's midfield.
Many thought the team selection for the semi-final victory over Club America would give an indication as to the Frenchman's rotations as well as what his best selection actually is.
In truth it was a little of both with minimal rotation affecting the midfield however the fact Casemiro's place was untouched shows just how important the former Porto midfielder is.
A fibula injury kept him out of the team for two months and whilst Los Blancos have continued to win matches in that time, performances have often been a struggle with Sergio Ramos' late heroics being relied upon numerous times.
Casemiro has been slowly reintegrated into the first-team over that period having taken part in the second-half at the Camp Nou as well as starting against Borussia Dortmund, yet it is now clear the Frenchman sees him as undroppable.
As we head into the business end of the campaign following the winter break Zidane has regained the core of his team in midfield.
Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are the first choice partners for the Brazilian who does much of the hard work just behind them.
With Los Blancos competing on all fronts, the return of the Brazilian and his selection in Japan on Thursday shows he will be extensively used by his coach in the coming months and will be fundamental to the team's chances of success.
