The Pretoria High Court has sentenced Ncumisa Selani to three life terms for the murders of her two boyfriends and her 17-year-old son between 2016 and 2018.

After discovering she had contracted HIV, Selani blamed her Malawian boyfriend, Michael Changisa. She enlisted another partner, Zimbabwean national Michael Phiri, to kill Changisa. Changisa was murdered and buried in Selani’s backyard.

2017 – The Second Victim

Phiri later moved into Selani’s home with her two sons. The relationship reportedly turned violent. Prosecutors said Selani and her teenage son killed Phiri and buried him atop Changisa’s grave.

2018 – A Mother’s Ultimate Betrayal

Selani’s teenage son later began abusing drugs and allegedly blackmailed his mother, threatening to reveal the murders. Selani then killed her son and buried him in the same grave.
Three lives were lost, all concealed in one burial site.

2020 – The Secret Unearthed

The crimes came to light when Selani’s younger son became ill. During a consultation with a traditional healer, he revealed the events, believing the spirits of the deceased were linked to his illness. Police were alerted and uncovered the remains.

Selani was arrested and has now been sentenced to three life terms. What appeared to be an ordinary home concealed years of violence beneath it.
