On February 24, 2026, President Samia Suluhu Hassan (who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Tanzania People's Defence Force, or JWTZ — Jeshi la Ulinzi la Wananchi wa Tanzania) officially inaugurated the new National Defence Headquarters in Dodoma, Tanzania.
This modern facility is located in the Kikombo area, within Chamwino District in Dodoma region. It marks a historic milestone as the first permanent headquarters for Tanzania's defence structures, ending over six decades (since 1964) of operating from temporary or older bases, initially in Upanga, Dar es Salaam, and later in temporary Dodoma setups after the government's capital shift.
"These headquarters are a symbol of our nation's maturity and a testament to Tanzanians' ability to plan, decide, and execute large-scale projects using our own funds and local professionals."

- Cost: The completed phase cost around Sh121 billion (with full project estimates reaching approximately Sh318 billion, or roughly $124 million USD, fully funded by the Tanzanian government).
