The Uganda Police Force has reported a 10.2 percent drop in reported crime cases in 2025, according to the 2025 Police Crime Report launched by Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba at Police Headquarters in Naguru Police Headquarters.

According to the report, a total of 196,405 cases were reported in 2025, down from 218,715 cases recorded the previous year, indicating a significant reduction in crime across the country.

The report further shows that 115,301 case files were submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal review and prosecution. Out of these, 79,291 cases proceeded to court, leading to 24,899 convictions.

The convictions resulted in 31,732 people being sentenced by courts of law, reflecting continued cooperation between police investigators, prosecutors, and the judiciary in handling criminal cases.

Speaking at the launch of the report, IGP Abbas Byakagaba said the reduction in crime was a result of strengthened policing strategies, community cooperation, and increased operations targeting criminal activity across the country.

The annual Police Crime Report provides a national overview of crime trends, case management, and the performance of the criminal justice system in handling reported cases.
