Parliament has directed the Clerk to remove Members of Parliament’s personal telephone numbers from all official platforms after investigations found that fraudsters were collecting the contacts from Google to target legislators.

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa (Ruhinda North) told the House on October 21, 2026, that the numbers were being used by conmen to trick and defraud MPs.

“Our investigations indicate that conmen are picking contacts of MPs from Google and using them to trick and defraud the legislators,” Tayebwa said.

The directive is intended to protect legislators from fraudsters who exploit publicly available contact information.

However, Parliament has not yet announced alternative contact channels through which constituents can reach their MPs.
