One person died while three others suffered injuries after a Ministry of Health vehicle stumbled on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along the Sangailu Hulugho Road in Garissa County by suspected Al Shabaab militants.
One of the victims lost his leg during the 7pm incident. North Eastern Regional Coordinator Ambassador Mohamud Saleh said the three were evacuated to safety.
Security officers have been dispatched to the area to pursue the assailants. This followed just hours after five police officers were killed and four others injured after suspected Al Shabaab gunmen attacked their vehicle between Kotulo and Elwak towns in Mandera County.
Reports indicated that the militants ambushed the police officers on Monday morning in the village near the Kenya-Somalia border.
In a statement, signed by police spokesman George Kinoti, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett confirmed that the attack had taken place when a police vehicle, with nine officers on board, escorted a desert Cruiser Bus heading to Mandera from Wajir.
