A newborn baby girl rescued from a pit latrine in Abaita Ababiri, Katabi, has received her first vaccinations at Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital, where she is undergoing medical care.
The infant was immunised yesterday afternoon and weighed 2.7 kilogrammes during a medical check-up. Health workers registered her on a child health card under the name Zion Victory in recognition of her survival.
The baby was rescued earlier this week after residents heard cries coming from a pit latrine. Police officers responded to the distress call and carried out a multi-hour operation, carefully digging through the structure to retrieve her before rushing her to hospital.
Police in Katabi have launched investigations and are searching for the baby’s mother. Authorities say the child will be placed temporarily in the care of an orphanage pending the necessary legal clearance.
