Uganda’s military chief Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has declared the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development dissolved, escalating his confrontation with its chairman, Odrek Rwabwogo.
Kainerugaba said PACEID’s functions, budgets and responsibilities would be transferred immediately to Operation Wealth Creation, a government programme cordinated by Gen Salim Saleh.
We are officially dissolving PACEID as an organisation,” Kainerugaba said Friday on X.
All its functions, budgets and responsibilities will be taken over by Operation Wealth Creation. This starts immediately.”
“The status of Odrek is being discussed,” he added, without providing details.
Rwabwogo said earlier this week that Museveni created PACEID on March 16, 2022, before placing it under the Office of the President on May 25 of that year.
He said only the President could terminate its mandate and that Museveni had told him no such directive had been issued.
The Office of the President, Finance Ministry and PACEID didn’t immediately respond to Kainerugaba’s latest statements.
