'Sanctions or no sanctions, Zimbabwe will sell its diamonds': Mugabe

Speaking after touring two mining operations in Chiadzwa on Wednesday, President Robert Mugabe reiterated that sanctions or no sanctions, Zimbabwe will continue to sell its natural resources.
"We are satisfied that the companies are fulfilling the objectives for which they secured permission to open mines here and so for us as government and as a people, we are waiting for the end product." he said.
His first port of call was the Sino-Zimbabwe operations which are in Block-D of the Chiadzwa diamond field where he was told that after carrying out extensive explorations and trial runs, it was discovered that the amount of diamonds are not economic.
The officials have since requested to be allocated another area, preferably in areas adjacent to Mbada or Marange Resources operations in order for them to recoup the expenses they incurred.
Mugabe also visited the diamond mining company jointly owned by the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC) and a company from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
So far the companies have spent US$50 million in their preparations and are ready to start operating on the 15th of next month.
In his remarks, ZMDC board Chairman, Goodwills Masimirembwa said all what is happening at Chiadzwa is above board, adding that he is happy with the developments so far.
