most podcasts are sponsored by ads and most of the people who make podcasts are already doing sth besides the podcast, it self to make money like , deejays making music podcasts to promote new music , popular book authors have podcasts to talk about various topics about their book or celebrities hosting other celebrity guests on their podcast as a talk show though there are other podcasts following current events. All in all the podcasts is sth extra but not the main thing, its fan service
