BAADA ya kuwepo kwa baadhi ya tafiti zilizokuwa zikiruhusu uvutaji wa bangi kwa madai kwamba ilisaidia wagonjwa waliosumbuliwa na msongo wa mawazo, hali hiyo imesababisha baadhi ya nchi kuruhusu matumizi yake.
Pamoja na mawazo ya wengi kufikiria kuwa kutokana na nchi ya Jamaica ndiyo ilikuwa mstari wa mbele kwa watumiaji wengi ingekuwa ya kwanza kuruhusu bangi, lakini ukweli ni kwamba nchi ya Canada ndiyo ilikuwa ya kwanza kukubali bangi kutumiwa kama dawa ya maradhi.
Baada ya utafiti huo wa awali hivi karibuni watafiti wengine wamegundua kuwa matumizi ya bangi kwa muda mrefu yanasababisha kujiongezea madhara badala ya kutibu kama ilivyokuwa ikisemekana hapo awali.
Watafiti hao wamekwenda kinyume na wale wa kwanza kwa kusema kuwa matumizi yake yana uwezekano mkubwa wa kumletea mtumiaji magonjwa ya kupungua uzito mara kwa mara, magonjwa ya figo, ini na ugonjwa wa akili.
Watafiti waliogundua athari hizo ni wale wanaotokea nchini Australia ambao katika utafiti wao wamegundua kuwa zaidi ya vijana 3,100 walio katika umri wa miaka 20 ndio wamekuwa watumiaji wakubwa wa bangi.
Utafiti wao umekwenda mbali na kubaini kwamba asilimia 18 ya vijana hao ni wale waliojiingiza katika matumizi ya dawa hizo za kulevya kwa muda wa miaka miwili au mitatu.
Asilimia nyingine 16 ya vijana wa umri huo wamebainika kutumia kwa muda wa kati ya miaka minne hadi mitano.
65 kati ya watumiaji wamegundulika wameshaathirika na maradhi ya ugonjwa wa akili.
Wakati hao wakisumbuliwa na tatizo hilo wengine 233 wamebainika kuathirika kwa figo na ini.
Watafiti wamebaini vijana wengine kati yao wanasumbuliwa na tatizo la kupata uchizi (wehu).
Baada ya kubaini hayo watafiti wametoa ushauri kwa vijana kutotumia dawa hizo za kulevya kwa vijana kwa zaidi ya miaka sita au zaidi tangu pale siku ya kwanza alipoanza kutumia.
Wanasema kuwa kwa wale ambao sasa wamevuta kwa muda mrefu kati ya miaka 15 na zaidi wengi wao wamekumbwa na tatizo la kiakili.
Kwa mujibu wa Dk. John McGrath, wa kituo cha uchunguzi wa afya ya wagonjwa wenye mtindio wa ubongo cha Queensland, nchini Marekani, anasema: Wengi wa wagonjwa ambao wamekumbwa na matatizo hayo tumegundua ni wale waliowahi kutumia bangi kwa muda mrefu na hatimaye kujikuta wakipata tatizo la akili.
Daktari huyo anasema kuwa ni nadra sana kukutana na wagonjwa wa akili vijana halafu wakawa hawajawahi kutumia bangi, iwe mwaka mmoja au zaidi.
Anasema kuwa iwapo matumizi ya bangi yatakomeshwa tatizo la vijana kupata matatizo ya utaahira yatapungua kwa kiasi kikubwa duniani.

Kwa hapa nchini na baadhi ya nchi, bangi imetambulika kama dawa ya kulevya ambayo imekuwa na majina mengi kutokana na kutumiwa na kundi la vijana zaidi kuliko watu wazima.
Bangi imekuwa ikijulikana kwa majina mengi ikiwamo, dawa, ganja, hashish, kijiti, marijuana, kaya blunt na mengineyo, ilimradi kutegemeana na sehemu inapotoka.
Watumiaji wengi wamekuwa wakiitumia kwa kuvuta kama sigara au wengine hutumia kwenye kiko kwa kuvuta.

Mtumiaji wa bangi hupumua kwa tabu sana kuliko yule anayevuta tumbaku ingawa wote wanaharibu mapafu, pamoja na kuwa na uwezekano mkubwa wa kukaribisha ugonjwa wa kansa.
Imebainika kuwa watu wanaovuta bangi wamekuwa wakisumbuliwa zaidi na matatizo mengi ya kiafya.

What i came to realized is that even our Leaders are using Hemp. Doctors,Mps.Presidents, and so forth. but they dont want us to use it. that is stupidness. I am very angry with them.I am using hemp for good reason and it helps me.
