Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos has confirmed that he is in advanced discussions regarding a contract extension at Allianz Arena.
The 21-year-old Germany international's current deal is not due to expire until June 2012, however, he looks set to agree a reported three-year extension.

Talks are ongoing, but Kroos, who has recently been sidelined through injury having spent the previous season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, is pleased with progress.
He told Kicker: "I am in talks with the club over a new contract. As far as I see it, these negotiations are not completed yet.
"But thus far they have been in a very good atmosphere. To remain at Bayern Munich for longer is a likely option for my future."
In contrast, Turkey international Hamit Altintop looks set to leave Bayern at the end of this season when his contract expires.
Club director Christian Nerlinger has confirmed that Kaiserslautern forward Ivo Ilicevic could be a possible replacement due to the fact that Bayern are not planning any star transfers in the summer.
Nerlinger said: "It's a fact that we have been looking at Ivo Ilicevic."
He added: "We are not going to make any move for a big name this summer. We are going to have certain new players.
"These signatures will be selective as we have great players at our club. How would we be able to excel signatures like Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery?"

Werder Bremen's general manager Klaus Allofs insists under-fire coach Thomas Schaaf retains the full support of the club's board.
Schaaf guided Bremen to UEFA Champions League qualification last season, but the team are waging a fight for Bundesliga survival this term.

Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats

A 4-0 thrashing away to Hamburg at the weekend left Bremen just one point above the relegation zone following a run of one win in nine league games.
There have been calls for Schaaf to be replaced before the end of the season, but Allofs says there are no plans for a change of coach.
"Everyone is disappointed right now and anyone is able to understand that," Allofs told Norddeutscher Rundfunk.
"The manager has the full support from the club and its authorities, there are no contradictions."
Allofs also stressed Schaaf would not step down either, adding: "This is not an issue.
"Looking at how Thomas Schaaf is working on our planning for the new season ahead, you are getting that impression.
"No one would work that hard on a new team if he is eager to quit his job."

If he can't hold on to the ball and create, how is he that great. Werder are crying for him to do something and he can't. He has not lived up to the hype.

I wouldnt say that Marin is over rated. The kids has some great skills. His only problem is his size. He is easily pushed off the ball and that is a huge problem. If you dont have the ball you cant score or create.

I've always hated Bremen so I cannot be objective regarding Schaaf. I have observed his teams have ususally failed to close the deal when it counted. Bunch of bridesmais IMO. Marin is def overrated.

FrankenKnight, then why didn't Schaff and Alophs sell Marin during the transfer window just last month??? The problems at Bremen are not all related to Marin, many of the players on that sqaud have been under performing this season and the defense has been non existant much off the time. Schaaf has some serious issues on that side that are not going to be fixed over night.

I get the feeling that there is more internal conflict within the clubhouse than what has been made public. Marin seems to be an antagonist, and has a bad habit of challenging Schaaf and doing his own thing on the pitch. I never did care for Marin; too cocky and thinks he is better than he really is.

It's good that Thomas Schaaf has gotten a vote of confidence from the Werder Bremen managing board. Schaaf is a very good man and a great head coach. He deserves the time to try and make things right. The problem lies with Bremen's lacklustre players rather than its coaches. I wish Schaaf all the best (despite disliking Werder Bremen intensely).

It's funny, though, that a great coach like Schaaf has come under fire so much this season while a ridiculously horrible coach such as Felix Magath of Schalke is allowed to continue to intentionally destroy his club and few persons ever dare criticize him or question his malignant motives. Magath should be fired while Schaaf should be given a contract extension. Magath isn't even good enough to be Schaaf's water boy.

A former St. Pauli defender who now plays for the reserves and also works in the club's media department has been training for a possible comeback because six first-team defenders are missing for the upcoming Bundesliga match against Hannover.
St. Pauli coach Holger Stanislawski has called up Hauke Brueckner to train with the first team because he is running out of defenders.
The club says the 30-year-old Brueckner could end up in the squad for Saturday's match. Brueckner played for St. Pauli when it was in the lower tiers.

Lille looking to dampen Lyon's French title hopes

Lille can knock fourth-place Lyon out of the title race on Sunday when the French league leaders face the seven-time champions at home.
Lyon trails Lille by four points, with second-place Rennes and Marseille in between.

"It's a turning point for Lille," Lyon fullback Anthony Reveillere said, "because if they win, they know they will eliminate a title contender."
Lille, which has lost only once at home this season, will rely on the most lethal attack in the league with Ivory Coast forward Gervinho and Senegal striker Moussa Sow, who have combined for 27 goals.
But the club's 13-game unbeaten run ended last weekend in a 1-0 loss at Montpellier.
"We were no longer used to not taking points," Lille coach Rudi Garcia said. "We'll have to refocus and make sure everybody does more because we didn't see a team leading the league and doing anything to take points."
Lyon has won its last two league games, scoring four goals in each of them.
"There's some chemistry within the squad," Lyon coach Claude Puel said. "It shows the quality of our squad and its mindset. If we keep that mindset, we can do some very good things until the end of the season."
Lyon striker Lisandro Lopez is doubtful for the Lille match after picking up a hamstring injury in training last week.
But Lyon will count on forward Bafetimbi Gomis to lead the offense. Gomis scored the equalizer Tuesday in Lyon's 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League.
A victory from Lyon could allow Rennes to take over at the top and let third-place Marseille go level on points with Lille.
Marseille was held to a goalless draw by Manchester United on Wednesday in the Champions League.
"The French league is our priority," Marseille coach Didier Deschamps said. "We're in a period where we must rack up the maximum number of points. The other teams are taking points. We must stay in the leading pack."

The home of the best LIVE soccer and rugby awaits at FoxSoccer.tv -- don't miss a second of the action.

Marseille has won its last three league matches, but the defending champions will miss Andre-Pierre Gignac for Sunday's match at Nancy. The Marseille forward injured his groin last weekend.
Rennes has emerged as a dark horse in the title race, trailing Lille by only two points. But Rennes coach Frederic Antonetti downplayed expectations on his young squad.
"Let's be reasonable. There are teams that are more seasoned than us," Antonetti said after his team's 2-1 win over Toulouse last weekend. "Youth compensates for inexperience with a great generosity. This team shows desire and solidity in every match. But let's wait until the end of March to state what our ambitions are."
Rennes has built its success on a tight defense, the best in the league with only 18 goals conceded in 24 matches. But its offense ranks only 11th in the league with 28 goals scored.
On Saturday, Rennes will host Lens, a team fighting relegation.
"I'm really frustrated to see that my club is not going well," Lens defender Alaeddine Yahia said. "I want the club to be safe. It's painful to see us in that situation."
Also Saturday, it's: Arles-Avignon vs. Brest; Monaco vs. Caen; Saint-Etienne vs. Nice; Sochaux vs. Montpellier; Valenciennes vs. Lorient; and Bordeaux vs. Auxerre.
On Sunday, fifth-place Paris Saint-Germain hosts Toulouse.

Hazard has caught the eye of clubs across Europe this season after a string of strong performances in Ligue 1.

Rated at £20million, the 20-year-old is believed to be on the radar of Arsene Wenger, with Liverpool also said to be among the potential suitors.
Yet despite interest from some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, the Belgian believes he is not best suited to English football.
"I appreciate England a lot, Germany as well, but my characteristics respond more to Spanish football," Hazard is quoted as saying in The Sun.
"Furthermore, this country corresponds to my temperament, the heat and the beautiful stadiums."

I hope he doesn't go to Real or Barca. Seriously, the league just keeps on becoming more and more of a 2-legged race. What they need is for other smaller teams to be able to purchase players. Which of course isn't happening become of the financial gains Real and Barca get from their TV contracts. Unfortunate really, I see him going to Real.

Good point marc, I know that Bayern have already looked at him a couple of times and are interested in his services and I am sure Real will be in the hunt too. Zifane has been trying to get Real Madrid to get this guy for 6 months now. He definitely is good enough to play on either Real or Barca. Hazard has been fantasic and well taught by coach Rudi Garcia. I read he is signing a new contract with Lille today, but don't be fooled. It's only so Lille can have more bargaining power when the big boys come calling.

Triaud: Tigana is not to blame

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud insists coach Jean Tigana is not under increased pressure despite Saturday's heavy defeat by Lorient.

The home of the best LIVE soccer and rugby awaits at FoxSoccer.tv -- don't miss a second of the action.

Tigana's troops slumped to a 5-1 reverse to extend their winless sequence to three games and slip to 12th place in the Ligue 1 standings.
Les Girondins were champions of France in 2009 and finished sixth last season, and their decline appears likely to continue this term after picking up just seven wins in 24 league outings.
But Triaud is adamant there will be no knee-jerk reaction, telling Le Parisien: "The question of the departure of Jean Tigana does not arise. There is no decision to take.
"You cannot blame him for everything."

Lyon's Hugo Lloris is flattered by links with Manchester United, but Tomasz Kuszczak has told Sir Alex Ferguson: "I'm your real number one".
Speculation has been rife as to who will be the long-term replacement for Edwin van de Sar after the 40-year-old Dutchman confirmed last month that he will hang up his boots at the end of the season.

Ferguson already has Anders Lindegaard and Kuszczak on his books, while the names of a number of international stoppers - Lloris, Germany's Manuel Neuer, Holland's Maarten Stekelenburg and Russia's Igor Akinfeev - have all also been mentioned as possible candidates.
But Lloris, who is under contract with Les Gones until June 2012, told L'Equipe: "I am fully committed to the OL.
"After these announcements, the rumours, I have no problem with that.
"It's flattering, yes. But that does not mean I'm going to stop working and function as I always have."
Kuszczak, meanwhile, has urged Ferguson to make him number one at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old Poland international has found first-time opportunities hard to come by since his permanent move to the Red Devils in 2007.
Kuszczak, formerly of Hertha Berlin and West Brom, has made seven appearances this term and is looking to get more games under his belt.
However, new signing Lindegaard has played in United's last two FA Cup matches while Kuszczak has been forced to sit on the bench.
The Pole is desperate to prove himself and he believes he will shine if given an extended run in the side.
"Play me and I'll prove I'm your real No 1," he said.
"To play well I need to play regularly. I've shown when I get a run my form gets better. Now I'm waiting for my manager's decision."

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Nice 3-0 to go level on points with Lyon in fourth place in the French league, four points behind leader Lille.
Montpellier stunned Lille 1-0 to snap the leader's 13-game unbeaten run and climb to sixth place.

Marseille beat Saint-Etienne 2-1 Saturday to keep third place, one point clear of Lyon which thrashed Nancy 4-0 on Friday.
Also Saturday, it was: Lorient 5, Bordeaux 1; Brest 2, Monaco 0; Lens 2, Sochaux 3; Caen 2, Valenciennes 2; Auxerre 1, Arles-Avignon 1.
Mid-table Toulouse created the first chances. Federico Santander played Franck Tabanou in, but the Toulouse midfielder struck the bar from 13 yards in the 13th minute.
The Rennes defense was again caught out of position in the 27th, but goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez saved with his right foot a low shot from Paulo Machado.
The visitors had their first opportunity in the 39th, when Victor Hugo Montano intercepted a pass from Toulouse defender Daniel Congre to be clean through on goal. Toulouse goalkeeper Marc Vidal denied the Colombian forward.
Rennes opened the scoring after a handling mistake from Vidal, who palmed the ball into his own net from a 25-meter strike by France midfielder Yann M'Vila on the stroke of halftime.
Rennes missed an opportunity to add a second goal in the 53rd. Vidal parried a half-volley from Abdoul Camara and Alexander Tettey pounced on the rebound to fire above an empty net.
Toulouse equalized with an own goal from Rennes defender Kevin Theophile Catherine in the 61st. Tabanou charged down the left flank to make a cross that Douchez tried to punch away, but the ball bounced off Theophile Catherine and into the net.
Moussa Sissoko nearly scored the winner for Toulouse in the 69th. He outpaced the Rennes defense only to hit the post from seven yards.
Jerome Leroy beat the offside trap in the 85th to bear down on goal, but the Rennes substitute was fouled by Toulouse fullback Adrian Gunino. Colombian striker Victor Hugo Montano converted the ensuing penalty kick to give Rennes the victory.
In Nice, Guillaume Hoarau redirected a corner from Brazilian midfielder Nene toward the far post where PSG winger Ludovic Giuly found the net with a header in the 24th minute.
Hoarau notched his seventh goal of the season to double the lead, chesting down a cross from Nene to fire into the top corner in the 44th.
PSG defender Sylvain Armand made it 3-0 when he converted a rebound in the 74th after Nice goalkeeper David Ospina had stopped a shot from Nene.
Nice were reduced to ten men in the 78th when Drissa Diakite picked up a second yellow card for a foul on Nene.
"We had to win," PSG midfielder Claude Makelele told the club's website. "We must absolutely stay in the leading pack and therefore we must no longer drop points."
Montpellier midfielder Younes Belhanda scored the winning goal on a counterattack, playing a one-two with Souleymane Camara to cut inside and beat Lille goalkeeper Mickael Landreau with a low shot in the 84th.
Lille has the most potent offense in the league but struggled to create chances, producing just one shot on target.
"Maybe it's a good thing to finally lose," Lille coach Rudi Garcia told Canal Plus television. "At least it will oblige us to question ourselves."

Hamilton's relegation troubles deepened Tuesday with the Scottish Premier League's bottom team losing 1-0 at Aberdeen.
Chris Maguire netted from the penalty spot after Sone Aluko had been fouled in the box by Jim McAlister.
Hamilton has not won in the league since October and is five points adrift of St. Mirren at the bottom of the standings.
In Tuesday's other match, St. Johnstone drew 0-0 with Dundee United.

Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero admits his side desperately need to find consistency if the Bianconeri are to secure European qualification this season.

The Turin giants lost 2-0 at Lecce last Sunday to fall out of the Europa League places, and they face a crucial clash with Bologna on Saturday.
Consistency has been Juve's main problem this campaign.
Having lost at Udinese and Palermo, Juve bounced back with victories at Cagliari and against Inter Milan.
However, their hopes of clinching a third straight victory for the first time this season were tarnished at the Via del Mare stadium last weekend.
"It's useless to underline how important the game against Bologna is for us," Del Piero said. "Especially, in view of last weekend's defeat at Lecce.
"Our focus is completely placed on returning to victory and finding consistency.
"We have been thinking of this game since 16:48 of last Sunday."
The Turin giants are seventh in Serie A, seven points behind Lazio who hold the last Champions League qualifying spot.
Juventus coach Luigi Del Neri will not be able to call on Gianluigi Buffon, with the goalkeeper serving a one-match ban on Saturday.
Marco Storari will replace Buffon in goal while Alessandro Matri is expected to partner Luca Toni in attack.
Bologna travel to Turin in 12th position in the standings, nine points clear of the drop zone.
The Rossoblu lost 1-0 to Roma on Wednesday to concede their first defeat at the Renato Dall' Ara stadium this year.
Bologna coach Alberto Malesani has urged his players to put that setback behind them and concentrate on taking a positive result this weekend.
"We need to forget about this defeat and concentrate on our next game which will be another test for us," Malesani said.
"Juve will be looking to make amends in front of their home fans and we will have to be at our very best if we are to surprise them."
The visitors will be bolstered by the return of Evangelos Moras, Daniele Portanova, Diego Perez and Henry Gimenez from suspension.

After beating Inter we loose to Lecce. It doesn't get any more inconsistent than that. It wasn't that we lost the game, but Lecce dominated us.

Don't get me started on Diego. BTW, how are things working out at Wolfsburg?

I never understood letting Diego go. Despite the below par season he had last year I don't understand why Juve didn't give him aniother year before pulling the plug. Seems like another season with no CL football is coming up, who would have thought they would see Juve out of Champions League Football so many times in the past 5 years.
