Mbarara couple killed in night attack

A man and his wife were killed after unknown assailants attacked their home in Kafunjo Cell, Nyarubanga Ward, Mbarara City North Division, on Sunday night.

The deceased have been identified as Herbert Turyatunga and his wife, Jane Nakyanzi.

Preliminary information indicates that the attackers stormed the couple’s home at around 10:00 p.m. and killed Nakyanzi at the scene.

Turyatunga reportedly returned home while the assailants were still inside and was attacked, leaving him critically injured.

He was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at about 4:00 a.m.

The motive for the attack remains unknown, while investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the killings and identify those responsible.
