Senior Counsel Martha Karua was earlier today denied entry into Uganda upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport and ordered to return to Kenya without being given any reason.
Ms Karua had travelled to Uganda to join the defence team representing Dr Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale alongside Kampala Lord Mayor and lawyer Mr Erias Lukwago.
She was accompanied by the President of the Law Society of Kenya, Mr Charles Kanjama SC. However, while Mr Kanjama and other members of the delegation were cleared by immigration officials and allowed into the country, Ms Karua was denied entry and instructed to return to her home country.
Her arrival had come ahead of the scheduled appearance of Dr Besigye and Mr Lutale before the Makindye court.
The circumstances under which the prominent Kenyan lawyer was barred from entering Uganda were not immediately clear, as authorities had not provided any explanation for the decision by press time.
