ISLAMABAD: With UN declaration for observing Malala Day on Saturday, the world has added its voice with the internationally recognised icon and child activist from Swat whose dynamic vision finally wrested unprecedented support across the globe towards the fight for girls education.
No one would have imagined that a 15-year Malala Yousafzai from a terror-hit Swat Valley would earn a nonpareil recognition of a global day in her name and worldwide support for Nobel Peace Prize in honour of becoming a symbol of resistance against the Taliban and proponent of girls education.
Malala Yousufzai, a campaigner for girls education, was shot by terrorists on October 9 for raising her voice against the ban on female education and closure of female educational institutions.
Her thoughts were lent credence in 2009 when she started writing an anonymous diary for BBC Urdu about hardships and life under the Taliban rule in Swat, who had blown up a number of schools in the valley, banning all girls from attending schools and threatened female teachers.
Presently under treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, UK, Malala Yousufzai is recuperating fast as she has started talking, walking and reading.
