THE World Economic Forum (WEF) has named the Deputy Minister for Communications, Science and Technology, Mr January Makamba, one of its 2013 Young Global Leaders (YGLs).

Mr Makamba, who has been recognised for his professional achievements and commitments to society, joins other 198 honourees from 70 countries in the developed and developing world to constitute the YGL Class of 2013.

The honourees, according to WEF, are expected to co-create a community of insight and action that is committed to improving the state of the world. The YGL Class of 2013 is composed of honourees from all sectors, with half of them coming from business and the other from arts and culture, academia, civil society, government, media and non-profits.

Some 42 per cent of the selected leaders are women. Mr Makamba said he was humbled and honoured for the recognition and promised to use the opportunity to learn from his co-honourees and use the knowledge for the development of the country.

A statement issued by WEF shows that 45 of the honourees come from East Asia, Europe (49), Latin America (16), the Middle East and North Africa (12), North America (40), South Asia (18) and sub-Saharan Africa (19).

Drawn from a pool of several thousand candidates, the 2013 YGLs were selected by a committee, chaired by Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The choice was based on the proven track record of the individual, his or her leadership experience, ability to overcome adversity and commitment to society.

WEF Founder and Executive Chairman, Klaus Schwab noted that the YGL forum provides a unique effort to engage the younger generation into the management of global affairs, working together and being integrated into the larger Forum community.

The 2013 honourees will become part of the broader Forum of YGL community that is currently composed of 756 outstanding individuals. The selected leaders are to meet at an annual summit to be held in Yangon, Myanmar between June 2 and 5, this year.

Good luck begins in the morning or is just a false down. Whatever, CONGRATS.

Depending on their definition of Leadership. Look here, "Mr Makamba, who has been recognised for his professional achievements and commitments to society". Are those Leadership traits?

Although leadership is not easy to define, the one characteristic common to all leaders is his or her ability to make things happen. Leadership is the ability to motivate people to act decisively to accomplish mutually desired results. The secret to success as a leader is to find and understand a real problem, then solve it, and to find and understand a real need, then fill it.
What have our so called leaders in Tanzania done to prove that they are really leaders.
They lack all the traits: TRUSTWORTHINESS, DISCIPLINE, COURAGE, CONFIDENCE, ENTHUSIASM, DECISIVENESS, UNSELFISHNESS, LOYALTY just to mention a few.
As a country we have a long way to go to have real leaders. We are "privileged" to have many "
vacancy fillers", and not leaders!!
Makamba is one of those.... pole sana bwana!!!

Weldone January ingawaje Mkulu alinisikitisha pale alipokupeleka Mawasiliano badaya ya Nishati ambako ulikuwa unakupigia kelele zaidi!! Hakika, nishati ndiko unge-prove kama kweli u're tht competent.

I am not aware what criteria they are using, if Zito, or Mnyika are out of the list, it will be lobbying.
