Police have arrested a key suspect in the murder of Ministry of Local Government official, Moses Omaido.

Aliya Nakimera, who had been on the run since March 26, was arrested in Mityana District and later transferred to Kira Division Police, where she is being charged with the murder of 44 year old Moses Omaido.

The incident, believed to have stemmed from a domestic dispute, occurred in Kamuli A Zone in Kira Municipality. According to police reports, violence broke out on March 26 at around 6:00AM after Nakimera allegedly tried to stop Omaido from leaving for work.

Omaido was reportedly involved in a complicated relationship involving his current girlfriend, Oliver Agadi, and his alleged ex-girlfriend, Nakimera. Agadi, who was initially detained to assist with investigations, told police she was in the bathroom when the situation turned deadly.

She said she later saw blood coming from the bedroom, but both Nakimera and Omaido had already left the house. Video footage later showed Omaido stumbling out of the house while seeking help before collapsing a short distance away.

A neighbour who responded to the incident said Omaido was still speaking when help arrived but could not be assisted in time due to the severity of his injuries and fear of interfering with forensic evidence.

Police say Omaido sustained a deep stab wound to the lower front part of his neck. Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Omaido, who served as a Principal Human Resource Officer at the Ministry of Local Government, will be buried on April 1, 2026, at his ancestral home in Kalengo, Tididiek, Ngora District.
