Lawyers have filed a complaint against Speaker of Parliament Anita Among before the Inspectorate of Government (IGG), accusing her of allegedly breaching the Leadership Code Act through failure to declare or possible under-declaration of her wealth.

The complaint, dated May 13, 2026, was addressed to IGG Lady Justice Aisha Batala Naluzze and lodged by six complainants identifying themselves as citizens and taxpayers acting under Section 21 of the Leadership Code Act.
The complainants, led by lawyer Andrew Karamagi of the Pan African Lawyers Union, argued that Section 4 of the Leadership Code Act requires leaders to declare their income, assets and liabilities every two years during the month of March.
They further contended that under Section 4(4), any leader who fails to declare, knowingly makes a false declaration, or omits required information commits a breach of the Leadership Code and may face penalties including dismissal from office, confiscation of undeclared assets, and other sanctions provided for under the law.
In their petition, the lawyers requested the IGG to investigate Among’s declarations and avail them with copies of her declaration records “if any,” in accordance with Section 22 of the Leadership Code Act.
The development comes amid heightened political scrutiny surrounding the speakership race ahead of the full establishment of the 12th Parliament.
