Lamu and Bagamoyo Ports Progress

A few years ago Kenya announced grand plans to construct Africa's largest infrastructure dubbed LAPSSETT which would see a modern port in Lamu, then poised to be the largest in Africa, served with a modern network of Rail and Roads to all her neighbors. A few months later Tanzania responded with plans for an even grandeur port at Bagamoyo poised to beat Lamu and become the largest on the continent.

To date, works on Lamu port are well on way and construction is doing fine. Bagamoyo however seems stuck. This thread talks of the progress of these two game changers. Please feel free to share information.

Kwa iyo ndio mtakuwa na bandari mbili kama sijakosea, Mombasa na Lamu, bongo kuna ports mtwara, lindi, tanga, kigoma, mwanza na kule ziwa nyasa kule. Iyo ya bagamoyo itakuwa ya mkoa wa Pwani and will be ze largest one ofcoz, meanwhile serikali inarenovate cha tanga kwanza ili iweze kupakia mafuta ya Ug na kupakia mizigo ya Arusha na Moshi ambayo kwa sasa, mingi hupitia Mombasa. So my point is, threat ya bandari ya Lamu kwetu bongo imeshakuwa eliminated kitambo, how? Bomba la Ug litapita Tanga, meanwhile same Tanga port inapose risk kwenye bandari yenyu ingine ya Mombasa.

Msidhani bongo kuna mabongolala, kelele za bagamoyo zililetwa ili kuwapoteza dira, wakati wanaume tunawatongoza waganda, wamekubali tu, kelele za bagamoyo port zikapoa.

Magufuli froze that project soon after being sworn in. I remember him saying it is not a priority for now. We have four existing ports that are yet to reach full capacity (Tanga, Mtwara, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar)

You should have seen Geza Ulole taunt Kenyans here over the port. We spent the whole of 2015 trying to convince him that Bagamoyo port was not feasible but wapi. The guy rubbished Lamu Port and the whole of LAPSSET because of it.

Bongo muna ports ila ukiziweka zote pamoja bado hazifikii Mombasa.
