The Kenya Revenue Authority has warned taxpayers to clear all outstanding 2025 tax arrears by April 30, 2026, or risk penalties and interest charges on unpaid balances.

According to the tax authority, while June 30 remains the deadline for filing annual tax returns, April 30 is the key cut-off date for settling any unpaid tax liabilities for the previous financial period. This means individuals and companies with outstanding balances must act quickly to avoid extra costs.

KRA noted that companies are expected to pay taxes in four equal instalments based on their estimated annual tax liability. These payments are due on or before the 20th day of the 4th, 6th, 9th, and 12th months of the accounting period.

The announcement comes as the government intensifies efforts to boost revenue collection and widen the tax base amid rising budget pressures. Recent parliamentary discussions have also emphasized digitisation and stronger compliance systems at KRA.

Tax experts say failure to settle arrears in time could trigger penalties, interest accumulation, and possible enforcement actions, including compliance notices.

Kenyans with active PINs are now being urged to check their iTax accounts, confirm any outstanding balances, and regularize their status before the deadline.
