A government ambulance belonging to Koboko District has been held at a Toyota service centre in Gulu City for more than three years over unpaid repair bills owed by the district, disrupting emergency medical services for residents.
The Ministry of Health-branded ambulance, registration number UG 4413 M, is currently being held at CFAO Mobility’s Toyota regional office in Gulu, where it was taken for repairs.
The prolonged detention of the ambulance has raised concerns over access to emergency healthcare in Koboko, as the district continues to operate without the vehicle that is meant to support the transportation of patients and other emergency medical services.
The repair centre is reportedly demanding payment of outstanding bills before the ambulance can be released, leaving the district faced with the challenge of settling the accumulated costs to recover the government vehicle.
The situation also highlights concerns over the management and maintenance of government vehicles, particularly those relied upon for essential public services.
Residents and health workers are now calling for the matter to be resolved so that the ambulance can be returned to service and emergency medical transport restored in the district.
