A study by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Haki Ardhi, shows that the government's decision to halt the Kigamboni New City Project has paralyzed economic development in the area and called on the state to come clean on the matter.

Haki Ardhi Executive Director, Mr Yefred Miyenzi, told reporters in
Dar es Salaam on Monday that 70 per cent of the youths who depended on construction activities to make a living have been left jobless since the government stopped construction work in Kigamboni.

"Kigamboni residents want to be fully involved in the project development, they want to discuss and air their views in official meetings," said Mr Miyenzi while reading findings of the study conducted between December 2011 and March 2012.

He said the study was conducted to examine social, economic and environmental impacts to Kigamboni residents since the introduction of the project in 2008, saying the study interviewed different people including local government leaders in the area.

"The researchers also used various reports including master plan of the project, hansards and newspaper cuttings to compile the study," he said.

He said the study discovered that people have been psychological affected because they are kept in the dark about the fate of the project and thus their own fates and cannot make future plans.Mr Miyenzi further noted that many Kigamboni residents have been denied loans by banks after submitting title deeds as collateral and affecting entrepreneurs tremendously in the process.

He also advised the government to consider the current currency value when compensating Kigamboni residents to avoid complaints, saying that previous experience indicates that people are underpaid when payments take many years.

Kwanini Serikali ya CCM imesimamisha Ujenzi wa Kigamboni City? Vijana Wengi Wangepata Kazi na kuipa kura CCM

Bora kuna sababu ya kusimamisha Ujenzi isiwe ikawa kuna wakubwa wanataka hilo eneo; wakubwa wawekezaji wa

Nje...

Mfano halisi upo...angalia kurasini..hayo ndo mambo yanayopelekea watu kupinga. Ndugu yangu wachina wako smart wacha mchezo kaka. Tungeiga hawa wachina tungekuwa mbali kidogo sana wameegemea magharibi wazungu tangu lini ana urafiki na waafrika? Hapo tumecheza pata potea...
