Kwahiyo unataka kusema, kama Mombasa au Lama wakipata siku wakawa na rough sea wave of 20m high (which happen at certain time of the year) kazi itaendelea bila shida. I tell you, moja ya sababu bomba la mafuta kupelekwa Tanga na sio Mombasa ni uwezo wa meli kubeba mafuta all year round, wakati Mombasa wangeweza kufanya kazi hiyo for only 9 month of the year.
 
Ukirudi juu utaona nilisema wave leath ndio inachangia kupata meli nyingi na sio the depth of the port, kunawakati Mombasa inashindwa kuingiza meli because ya wave is too much. Unafikiri kwanini pirates wa kisomali wanaweza kwenda deep sea na viboti vidogo, ni kwasababu bahari ya gulf of Aden imetulia.

This is were Tanga port comes in and Djibouti port also, these port respectively are shield by other objects at the sea, Tanga wanazuiwa na Pemba island, na Djibouti wanazuiwa na Gulf of Aden. Ukiwa na hiyo shield bahari yako inakuwa na mawimbi kidogo kitu ambacho unaweza hata kuweka meli katikati ya maji na ukapakia na kupakuwa.(sio lazima ije bandarini all you need is a floting dock)

PS: i can see what your saying that kilindini is inside Mombasa, lakini tatizo linakuja pale meli inapotaka kuingia kilindini au kutoka. Kama bahari imechafuka, itabidi wasubiri mapaka ikae sawa ndio waendelee na shughuli zao. Wakati bandari ya Djibouti na Tanga wao haitaji kusubiri. Hili tatizo litawakuja hata kwa Somalia siku wakiacha kucheza na vita yao wakaanzisha bandari. Na Djibouti imeliona hilo ndio maana wanajaribu to milk every opportunity which comes their way, from air to rail to shipping.

This is the same situation with Djibouti, they have the same opportunity of calm ocean not calm port. Wewe unaangalia Kilindini tuu unaona maji yamepowa, toka nje ya hiyo alleyway ya kilindini into Indian ocean. kama unaweza kusimamisha meli kwenye maji ya indian ocean na utowe mzigo kwenye meli uweke kwenye flotting dock, uweze kuleta huo mzigo ndani ya Mombasa kwa meli zingine ndogo. Lakini Djibouti wanaweza hata kubeba mzigo au kushusha wakiwa ndani ya bahari because of the shield they get from Gulf of Aden. Inawasaidia hata hawana haja ya kuwa na beth nyingi bandarini, same will happen with Tanga or Bagamoyo because of the weather protection from Zanzibar islands.
 
For a ship to offload and load it's wares, it needs calm waters. Mombasa, tanga, Djibouti all have that after it's through with the port business, whether it immediately enters rough oceans as is with mombasa or goes through a small patch of calm ocean as is with Djibouti doesn't matter. This is because it won't be loading or offload anything mid-sea, na bado ikitoka kwa that small sheltered waters patch itaingia tu kwa rough ocean.

There are two different things you have been talking about without necessarily realizing, You have been talking about general cargo(In containers) and oil..... there is cargo coming in and the posibility of crude oil from ug going out, now it is highly unlikely that any port would want to load/offload oil on an oil tanker which is at sea!!!!!!, the oil tanker will have to come to the birth where there is an oil pipeline tap, which as far as Mombasa is concerned, wont be affected by wind/tides as shown before, the Kipevu Oil Terminal is well inside the inlet

Kama ni ku offload cargo, inside that inlet which shields it from strong tides, there is plenty of space for a floating dock to offload cargo, A ship wont take that long to get inside that inlet as oppossed to offloading cargo from the high seas as you sujjesting, hata dakika 30 inatosha kuingiza meli ndani .

Alafu kitu chengine, the reason why you would need a floating dock itakua ni kama hauna nafasi ya kutosha, Mombasa iko na 21 berths, hata hakuna haja ya floating dock....... Lamu itakua na 32 berths!!!! why would you need a floating dock when you have plenty of berths..


Alafu hio ya Lamu port, is it really not shielded? wind can get through because the island is not hich enough, but can tides really get through and still have enough momentum to really affect shipping

Even if Lamu was not shielded, this is 21st century there are plenty engineering arcitectures of building a stable port/berth space of the oceah by shielding the port/birth space from strong tides, Just look at dubai palm islands, they have plenty of shielding from strong tides, If the Al-burj hotel is a skyscrapper built in the ocean! where there are strong winds and tides, what about a low leveled port?

Here is another point of veiw, Itachukua mda mfupi zaidi kwa meli yoyote kutoka bara Asia au magharibi kubipia red seal kuingia ndani ya Lamu, Kuliko mombasa, vile vile inachukua mda/wakati/na umbali mfupi meli kuingia ndani ya mombasa kuliko kwenda tanga na kukingwa na wawimbi.... Kwahivyo hata Tanga ikiwa na floating docks ngapi zenye ziko bahari ya tanga, bado itakua ni heri kuingia ndani ya inlet ya Mombasa au Lamu (ambapo ndo utapata kinga) kuliko kusafiri hadi Tanga

But my argument is, when the monsoon season start the wave which is been swept from China to India to East Africa affects the operational of the ports like Mombasa and Lamu and Somalia. Hii inatokea every year kutokea December mpaka March April time. Moja ya Sababu ya Total kutaka kujenga their ternimal in Tanga was this, that they will only be able to bring their ships safely and on time for only nine mouth in a year. Hii inatokana kama bahari ikichafuka kwa monsoon weather. Tanga or Djibouti wao hawata kuwa affected. Na ujuwe sio kama the whole season ya Moonson bandari ya Mombasa haitumiki, there bad days and not so bad days. lakini kwa watu ambao they want to make money they don't want to hear anything called BAD DAY. So kama vile mungu amepanga, Djibout and Tanga wana advantage ya kuzuia hali mbaya ya hewa kuliko Kenya na Somalia kwa upande wa East Africa.

Nadhani hukuelewa nilichokuwa nasema, Djibouti ni tishio kwa Mombasa na Lamu, kwasababu iko Afrika na ipo karibu na nchi za kiarabu na nchi za ulaya. Kwasababu wako Afrika na Afrika ndio kwenye rasilimali nyingi, Djibouti walisha amuwa kubadili nchi yao kuwa the biggest logisic center ya Afrika.
