Kenya tour operators warn tanzania on unfairness

TOUR FIRMS in Kenya have appealed to the Heads of State Summit - East African Community's top decision making organ - to intervene and resolve a standoff between them and Tanzania over a levy charged on foreign tour vans crossing into the country. The tour firms said Tanzania's insistence on charging "foreign" vans was against the tenets of free trade, which the EAC envisages.

According to Fred Kaigua, chief cxecutive of the Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO), Kenyan tour vans are charged $200 to enter Tanzania at all border crossings. "There is no such fee charged in other EAC countries and this is causing friction between the Tanzanian authorities and tour firms," said Mr Kaigua, adding that Tanzanian officials maintain that they were yet to receive orders requiring them to withdraw the charges.

However, Tanzania has insisted the charges are important, and will remain in force to protect its fledging tourism sector, which it says is not as developed as that of Kenya. Tanzania has indicated it needs more time, at least up to 2015,before it opens its market to EAC partner states. At an EAC meeting held in Mombasa last month, a representative from Tanzania said there were some policies and regulations that will remain in force, unless a reversal order was issued by higher authorities

Huyu CEO wa KATO wala hajafanya homework.yake vizuri. Hakuna sababu yoyote ile ya msingi ya kuondoa hiyo fee, wao na sera ya "mass tourism" wanadhani wanahaki ya kulalamika kwa kisingizio cha EAC. Hata siku moja!
 
Sasa wao walipowatangazia watalii kwamba Kilimanjaro na Serengeti zipo Kenya walitegemea sisi tuwaruhusu kuingia bure? Janja ya nyau tikisa makia. Nyang'au wanapenda kuvuna wasikopanda kwani ni lazima walete watalii wao Tanzania? Si wana Masai Mara? Hatuwezi kudanganywa kwamba hizi tour ni za walalahoi wa Kenya bali nyingi ni British companies ambazo wamiliki wake wana dual citizenship, kuruhusu huu wizi itakuwa ni kuwasaliti walipa kodi wa Tanzania. Hivi wanafikiri rais ana nguvu ya kubadilisha sheria za nchi kwa shinikizo?

Hizo nchi nyingine wanalalamika kwa nini? Hawana mbuga za kupeleka watalii wao? After all Kenya wanataka nini, Mt Kilimanjaro iko Kenya, Serengeti iko Kenya, kila kitu kiko Kenya sasa wanatafuta nini Tanzania?

Na ni kitu gani hawaelewi, Tanzania hawafanyi mass tourism, wasituletee 'back-packers' hapa. Mtu anakuja Tanzania ana uhakika wa kuona wanyama within minutes na sio kubahatisha. But you have to pay for it. Ukiruhusu watu wengi wanyama nao wanasogea, and it will take forever kuona baadhi ya wanyama. Kwa nini uhangaike na back packers 10 wakati unaweza kupata income hiyo hiyo toka kwa mtalii mmoja na ukalinda mazingira yako kwa wengine kufaidi?
 
BTW, hao watalii tunalipia mabango hadi mpirani kule Baclays EPL kodi zetu tunatumia kutangaza vivutio vyetu,this is an investment, iweje hawa jamaa waingie tu kama waingia ngomani? to hell na mbinu zao za kijinga. watz wa leo si wajinga tena na sielewi kwanini serikali yetu inachelewa kuwaadabisha zaidi.

Walikosea?mbona unaongea kama una minyoo?kama mnaona tunachelewesha EAf si mtuache kwanza halafu tutafata baadaye'kwa nini ulazimishe mambo ambayo partiner hataki kufanya?hivi bila sisi hamuwezi?mnaonyesha weakness kubwa sana mazee''anyway sisi hatupo tayari kwa sasa we need time bro!

kwani wakenya wanalalamikia nini? si ni wao waliofungua malalamiko kuzuia barabara ya serengeti kuwa itaharibu ikolojia ya mbuga hiyo maarufu ulimwenguni eti nyumbu wakakoma kuhama tena? sasa magari mengi wanayotaka kusafirishia watalii kuja serengeti hayatazuia nyumbu kuhama? why this double standards and incosistency? nawalaani sana watu hawa ambao wanachokijua tu ni kupora visivyo vyao.

Mkulu katika maisha inabidi uwe imara..... siku zote usifanye uamuzi eti kwa sababu watu fulani watakulaumu...... amua kulingana na maslahi yako....
Hatuwezi pikika chungu kimoja na wezi ambao wanatangaza mlima kilimanjaro uko kenya..... halafu watalii wakiingia kwao wawalete nchini bure....... kufanya hivyo ni kukubaliana na ufedhuri wao wa kudanganya kuwa mlima kilimanjaro uko kwao..... na tumeapa mpaka wakanushe kwa njia zile zile walizo tangaza ndipo tutakapo elewana.....
 
Hiyo fee si ngeni ipo na itaendelea kuwepo...... hata yule mropokaji wao N. Balala alipayuka sana kuhusiana na hili kabla hajapigwa chini, lakini.... kwa taarifa yenu hii fee tunampango ipande.....

Tunataka issue mpya na si hii ya zamani.... kwani hiyo fee imeanza leo ebo..
 
Hello guys. I'm new to this forum. I'm just curious how exactly does Kenya claim to own Mt Kilimanjaro and Serengeti? I've read a few posts that claim that Kenya advertises Mt Kilimanjaro as being in Kenya, and it seems many guys on this forum are especially mad about that.

Can someone post a few sources. I just did a simple research online and i saw many Safari sites that sell Kenyan, Tanzanian and other African countries Safari packages are actually owned and registered abroad. I also did a simple search on the KATO (Kenya association of tour operators) site it looks like the number of sites registered by Kenyans and whites are roughly even( 50/50) currently.

Also i'm curious why is is it wrong, or bad for Kenyans to sell Tanzania packages? I see alot of whites selling Mt Kilimanjaro and many Serengeti packages (They infact do this all over Africa) and no one seems to have a problem with that. Why does a Kenyan(Your black bros and sisters) doing the same thing drive Tanzanians mad? What's wrong with a Kenyan advertsing Mt Kilimanjaro if at the end of the day the tourist travels to Tanzania and spends money there, or travels to both Kenya and Tanzania.
Even South Africans sell Kenyan, and Tanzanian tour packages. Tanzanians do the same thing too. I frankly don't see anything wrong with it. Also ask your self how can you stop that in the current internet world? People of all races and color are selling Tanzania from (Rabat, Alaska, Ulalambatar, Kashmir, Migingo, Kariakor, Majengo to Mogadishu) and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Even if Tanzania were to draft laws to stop online Kilimanjaro & Serengeti package sales, people are smart they will always find a way around it.

It's a free market and at the end of the day its business. In business the most savvy and aggressive person wins. Whites have been doing it since time immemorial. Africans are currently catching up. I don't see anything wrong if Kenyans are currently ahead of the game. We need to stop this black on black hate. Kenyans and Tanzanians need each other. I don't see anything wrong with learning from a Tanzanian, and a Kenyan doing the same thing. We need to rise above petty arguments, and argue over things that will build, unite us, and speed development in East Africa.

The World economy is a free market, and especially with the internet anyone can sell anything in any country from anywhere (China, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Timbuktu you name it). Kenyans and Tanzanians for example sell and advertise Cocacola, Toyota, Peugot. You never here American and British or Frenchmen complaining and telling us not to sell or advertise Cocacola for example because it's American and that only Americans can do that.

Thank you for the literatur! Tanzania has no problem whatsover for Kenya to advertise Mt Kilimanjaro or Serengeti. You can do that and you have been doing that for donkey years so let's not pretend otherwise.

The noise you are hearing is becuase Kenyan tour operators want to lower the tourist fee charged on this end (TZ) using EAC as the backbone! But Tz is having none of that becuase we are on 'prime-tourism' vs mass tourism! So, all Kenya tour operators need to do (if they want to get into TZ market) is bring in more Bill Gate and not back packers. Wanaharibu mazingira in exachange for hela za sukumawiki. We want money but also we want to protect our environment.

Good point there! The thing is for Tanzania to ask themselves why they are being out smarted by others in the region. Why a tourist would land in Kenya and then driven to Tz? Has much to do with access. Develop your airports, improve national carrier and do aggressive marketing for what you have to offer which in a way is a far better product than anything else in the region
