Kenya: Markets Construction Boom

A silent tide is coming to take over the informal trade in Kenya. GOK and County Governments in collaboration with the world bank are undertaking a kes 33 billion project to construct modern, mega fresh produce markets across the country. The markets will come fully equipped with necessary infrastructure like cold storage facilities, loading bays for trucks, huge parking lots for customers.

As part of vision 2030, these projects form an important step in formalizing the informal traders who set up their trade on government land like road reserves, rail corridors and on the street walks.

Vitu ni mingi, yani GOK iko busy na kazi si maneno.

Ushaona sahi dam ni 6 zinajengwa, Commuter rail, Markets ni kama 126, Barabara hata kufatilia ni ngumu,zingine ziianza juzi kama Kisumu-Chemeil-Muhoroni-Kaitui highway na sikujua, ingine ni hii 500 km ya north eastern na hata haijakuwa kwa headlines.

Huoni aibu mlijifanya munaweza na pesa yenu na sasa hata 200 km ya sgr imekwama, mpaka GOT sasa inaangalia benki ya wabeberu(standard chartered) ipewe mkopo(Commercial loan) ya $1.4 billion ambayo bado wazungu hawajafikiria kuwapa.

Kuchukua deni na ulipe ni mzuri. Nyinyi hata word bank ina ogopa kuwapa deni kwa sababu wanajua mtarudi kuwaomba wasamehe madeni waliyowapa.

Haya basi ujue tena World bank, wamecommit kutoa $400 kwa kila mradi ya commuter rail Mombasa na kisumu. Alafu wametoa Kes 81 billion kujenga highway ya Isiolo kuelekea mandera (750 km).

Kisha IFC ambayo huwekeza pesa za world bank na IMF kwa private business, hii mwaka wamewekeza zaidi ya kes 6 billion kwa makampuni ya Kenya.
