Education Ministry Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has maintained that schools shall reopen on May 10, 2021 as earlier planned.

The CS dispelled rumours that opening dates for primary and secondary schools may change over the third wave of coronavirus that has struck Kenya.

Speaking during an official KCSE exercise in Kiambu county on Monday April 12, CS Magoha said there will be no changes on opening dates as covid-19 cases have started going down.

“I am hoping since it looks like the pandemic is going to flatten, there is no need for me to summon stakeholders as the timetable is likely to remain the same for the rest of the year,” CS George Magoha said.

Last week, the Ministry instructed County Directors of Education to facilitate the movement of KCSE candidates who will be traversing the zoned counties; Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu, Kajiado and Nakuru.

In the letter by Education Principal Secretary(PS) Julius Jwan, the Ministry asked the education officials to organise picking of the students from their schools.

The form-four candidates are expected to finish their KCSE from next week.

Meanwhile, 70 KCSE candidates from Anestar Boys High School in Nakuru who had been arrested for sneaking into a girl's school have been allowed to sit their rest papers in their school.

The boys, all form-four students, broke into the neighbouring Anestar Precious Girls Secondary School on Thursday night and proceeded to girls' dormitories with an unknown agenda.

Police arrested 10 of the boys while the school expelled 70 more requiring them to make arrangements how to sit their remaining papers.
