Residents of Kyalanga Village in Karusandara Sub-county, Kasese District, have joined forces to clear a water channel that has repeatedly flooded their community, destroying property worth millions of shillings and sometimes claiming lives.

Taking the initiative themselves, the residents are voluntarily removing accumulated silt, soil and other debris from the channel to improve water flow and reduce the risk of future flooding.

The community-led effort reflects residents’ attempt to protect their homes and property after years of recurring floods. By working together to clear the channel, they hope to reduce the damage caused when water overflows into the village.

However, residents continue to seek lasting solutions to the flooding, which has repeatedly threatened lives and livelihoods in the area.
