The Public-Private Partnership Centre (PPPC) and a University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) think tank have joined forces to hold a workshop that will explore the role of public-private partnerships in the reallsation of the Tanzania National Development Vision 2050.
The PPPC will conduct the one-day workshop at UDSM's library complex on May 27 in collaboration with the Research and Education for Democracy in Tanzania (REDET).
"Public private partnerships have a key role to play in the realisation of Vision 2050 by their ability to help build resilience against external shocks and constrained public finances," said David Kafulila, Executive Director of the PPPC.
"The government has set out a bold and ambitious challenge to deliver significant development to the country over the coming years with Vision 2050. PPPs are an integral part of this national development blueprint."
Kafulila said the role of the private sector as the main driver of economic growth is underpinned in Tanzania's National Development Vision 2050.
He underscored the importance of Tanzania pursuing economic self-reliance by diversifying funding sources amid a global shift in development financing.
The workshop is expected to take a deep dive into a number of issues, including international capital markets, mobilization of financing, opportunities, and challenges.
Chief executive officers (CEOs), business leaders, and other private sector actors are also expected to be in attendance.
Tanzania had about 80 PPP projects by last month at different stages of implementation, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The government has implemented various legal and regulatory reforms intended to make it easier for the private sector to engage in partnerships with the public sector.
📷 David Kafulila, Executive Director of the PPPC, will make a presentation on the PPP model and its role in Vision 2050, while REDET Chairman Prof. Rwekaza Mukandala will moderate the workshop.
