January 07, 2026 an Instagram page known as Midleeastmonitor reported that Judge Benny Sagi, president of the Beersheba District Court in Israel who oversaw a corruption case involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the submarine affair, died in a collision on Route 6 when his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle.

JamiiCheck has followed up and established that the claims stating that Judge Benny Sagi, President of the Beersheba District Court in Israel, oversaw a corruption case involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the submarine affair are not true.

According to a report by The Times of Israel dated February 12, 2020, citing a statement by Jerusalem District Court President Aharon Farkash, it was made clear that the panel of judges selected to preside over Netanyahu’s corruption trials consisted of Rivka Friedman-Feldman, Moshe Bar-Am, and Oded Shaham.

Sagi’s judicial work did intersect indirectly with matters linked to Netanyahu through the so-called “Submarine Affair” (Case 3000). In that case, Netanyahu was questioned but was not a defendant. The defendants were former officials and associates, and Sagi was scheduled to deliver a verdict on February 26, 2026, in a related case involving media consultant Tzachi Lieber.
