Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has reportedly been barred from attending an event where President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to launch the Mtongwe ferry services on Monday.

Joho was surrounded by heavily armed police officers in Nyali bridge amid allegations that Uhuru ordered his arrest.

But Joho's political advisor Idris Abdulrahman said police told them that they had instructions to prevent the governor from attending the event.

He said earlier on a contingent of police, GSU and Flying Squad detectives raided Joho's house in Nyali before they set up police check in every outlet of Nyali.

On Sunday while addressing a rally at Tononioka grounds, Uhuru had accused Joho of riding on projects initiated by his administration.

Uhuru said his government had disbursed over Sh40 billion to the county, yet it was among the worst developed counties in the region.

Uhuru challenged Joho to enumerate his achievement in Mombasa before resorting to insulting him and his government’s projects.

"Instead of wasting your time criticising what my government has done, stand up and tell us what you have done with the Sh40 billion we have given you to improve the lives of Coast people," Uhuru said.

National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale accused Joho of chest-thumping and playing the victim to gain political mileage.

He said Joho imposes himself in photos with the President to lie to people that he was part of what was being launched.

Juvenile rants from an immature spoilt brat. What he is not realising is that he has raised the profile of every Governor
whom he has insulted in public fora. A friend called Tony Kimani has penned a nice read on this tiff...

Throughout history, stories abound of the intricacies of power and the devious methods of exercising authority. Many instances have shown that careless brandishing of power has brought down Emperors and Kings.

Napoleon Bonaparte, France’s illustrious Emperor and conqueror per excellence, put it tacitly: “In ruling the subjects, the shrewd ruler uses an iron fist covered in a velvet glove.”

Using power blindly has but only one result: downfall.

Many leaders, who have impetuosity as their middle name, believe that aggressive action is similar to effective action. Yet, most often the most effective action is to stay back, keep calm, playing for long term power other than the myopic, quick gratification.

Today, The Sultan was crowned.

Despite the enormous and painstaking aeon of the JP Government, Hassan Joho passed the rigorous test and became, de facto, the King of Mombasa. For if the President, his Deputy and all the instruments of power they have at their disposal, can have such deep fear of the influence of such a man, then this man has authentic force, is of astounding substance and a man of indelible credence.

He is the one in control.

Power is all about control. By playing to the hands of Joho, Uhuruto have lost control and handed over the mantle to the Sultan. When you make other people come to you, you suddenly become the one controlling the situation. And the one who has control, Mutahi Ngunyi will tell you, definitely has power.

On the other hand, Uhuruto reactions of anger when pushed and baited only mortify and put to shame the integrity of the Executive. In the battle for the Coast, the duo has lost, hands down.

Now, the fracas and imbroglio that was created by the police of pushing back Joho not to attend the Commissioning of Mtongwe, will gain more publicity than whatever else the Executive will blurt out during the event. Through acts of continuous blatant faux pas, Uhuruto have added an extra coronet on Joho’s lapel.

In fact, Uhuru himself in Tononoka yesterday, declared him the nonpareil Sultan, Emperor of Mombasa.

In public perception, it’s not what you say but how you say it, that counts.

In their putrid boorishness and utter pride, Uhuruto have created Hassan Joho, Isaac Rutto, Josephat Nanok, Gideon Moi and Joseph Munya. By picking puerile fights with such men of lowly stature, the Executive has added more value to them than to their own “memorable” development projects.

Mutahi Ngunyi is surely doing a shoddy job.

A man who has been an erudite student of political history and keen analyst to boot, is doing a great disservice to this Government by failing to advise the Executive on the basics of handling and maintaining power. The subtle and unobtrusive nature of the dynamics of control and human psychology.

In the meantime, Joho and his lieutenants ought to pay back the JP supremos for putting their best foot forward in continuing to extol the Joho Brand. Team Joho.

Hussein Omar should be a very worried man now, for great leaders are not made during the periods of peace and tranquility. They are molded in times of turbulence, anarchy and autocracy.

The 3 rubrics that defined JP today.

"In another unconstitutional and tactical move, the Jubilee administration today barred the Mombasa leadership led by H.E. Governor Joho from attending Mtongwe ferry re-launch. This started by the Police blocking us from entering the CBD at Nyali bridge on the way to the Governor's office. Heavily armed GSU officers have been given instructions to barricade the Governors office. We shall not relent on our responsibilities of representation of our people" - Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir MP Mvita Constituency, Mombasa

I think it was just right for joho to avoid anything jubilee. In fact he should give presidential events in the coast a wide berth. I mean he is a whole governor right and jubilee is very corrupt and incompetent. He should focus on serving mbsa and NASA.

When Joho was invited on several occassions by Uhuru to Uhurus Rallies, instead of attending and selling his policies, he always tried to compete Uhuru with a lot of sideshows, he thought Uhuru was foolish, sasa leo analialia, alikuwa akidhani ataachwa tu akitaka kujitilia visifa kwa miradi ya serikali, leo hivi amegundua kuwa ako league dogo sana, akae nyumbani mambo yakifanyika kwenye kaunti yake.

Halikuwa jambo jingine ila kumuonesha Joho wakati amealikwa na Uhuru, ni heshima kubwa, na ni uzuri naye apeane heshima hiyohiyo.

Even his party leader Raila is more respectful. Huyu asiwahi karibia jukwaa LA rais.
And the President was very quiet the last time they shared a podium. I don't think he has seen anything yet. If Uhuru wins a second term, he may be in for a very long, rough time in the hands of the DP. Not even the president.

I pity our nation whenever i see posts like these.

Then we hear someone like you saying how patriotic he is, na kazi ni kuweka maneno ya uchafu na kugawanya watu hapa.

Shame be upon you and your ilk.

You know what pisses me most is that, what he is posting is not true, just cheap propaganda!! I wonder what went wrong with our people, someone should realize that Jubilee crowd is swelling at the coast day in day out. Such dirty and false propaganda can't help opposition any more
