There have been posts circulating on Facebook, particularly from the page Headline 360, claiming that:
“Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has called on China to leverage its significant influence to halt the escalating military actions by Israel and the U.S. against Iran. Italy warns that without Beijing's intervention, the conflict risks a total collapse of international law.”

However, upon digital investigation , it has been found that this statement misrepresents what Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni actually said.According to post published by Reuters, melon issued are statments regarding her strongest criticism yet of the U.S.–Israeli war on Iran, describing it as part of a growing and dangerous trend of interventions “outside the scope of international law.”

She warned that such a development would undermine the international non-proliferation framework, with “dramatic repercussions for global security,” potentially exposing Italy and Europe to nuclear threats from Tehran.

Further verification using keyword searches shows no evidence whatsoever that Meloni called on China to use its influence to end the conflict. Instead, it was China that made such a call, urging the United States and Israel to halt military actions in order to reduce escalating tensions.

In a separate development, in a letter addressed to Iran’s ambassador in Italy, Meloni:
urged Iran to cease its “unjustified” assaults in the Gulf, emphasizing the need to contain the crisis.
Additionally, when the conflict began, China issued an official statement urging restraint:
China called on all parties involved in the Middle East conflict particularly the U.S. and Israel to cease military operations, warning of a “vicious cycle” that, if prolonged, could undermine global economic growth and weaken demand for Chinese exports.

From March 28, 2026, information has been circulating online claiming that Giorgia Meloni and the Italian government said China must take action against Israel’s aggression over Iran. (See here and here)

Verdict: No supporting evidence

JamiiCheck conducted an online investigation using Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) techniques and found no credible evidence supporting this claim.

There are no reputable media outlets or official government sources that have published such a statement. Most of the posts spreading this claim originate from unverified and unreliable sources, and they do not cite any credible references.

However, on March 11, 2026, Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Israel criticised the U.S.–Israel military actions against Iran, describing them as part of a growing and dangerous trend of interventions occurring outside the scope of international law.

While Italy has expressed concern and criticised aspects of the ongoing conflict, there is no evidence that it has called on China to take action against Israel.

The claim that Italy urged China to act against Israel over Iran is false and unsupported by credible evidence.
