IT Manager



The IT manager is responsible for large academic and office network of over 400 computers. We currently have an IT team of 8, mix of western volunteers and Tanzanian staff. The IT Manager is responsible for managing budget and team workloads, as well as planning overall IT strategy. Due to the size of the team, and the intention to train Tanzanian staff to take up these roles, this position will, at times, be very "hands on".

Attributes:
IT Degree or equivalent experience
Minimum 1 year experience as manager or deputy in a medium to large IT department or several years experience with a small business specialist integrator or value added reseller
MCSE/MCP/RHCE or similar IT qualification an advantage

Essential management skills:
Budgeting
Time recording & reporting
Strategic planning

Essential IT skills:
Troubleshooting network issues
Windows server 2003/Active directory
Microsoft exchange 2003
Network design & implementation (Ethernet, fibre, wireless)
Linux server tools (squid, postfix, spam assassin, nagios)
Firewalls and VPN
Server and network installation
General computer hardware
User support

Desirable skills:
Database (MS Access, MS SQL Server, Mysql)
Web design
VOIP implementation
Library catalogue systems
VLAN & subnet design
Citrix terminal server
Experience of working in an academic environment (school, college, university, etc)
Experience of training IT staff
