The National Police Service (NPS) has termed the security breach witnessed during President William Ruto’s public address in Ganze, Kilifi County, as a serious national security concern, announcing immediate investigations and changes within the presidential security detail.
In a press statement released on Saturday, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said the incident occurred during a thanksgiving event on May 24, 2026, where an unidentified individual managed to interrupt the President’s speech midway by stepping onto the dais.
“Any breach involving the security of the President is unacceptable and a matter of the gravest national concern,” the statement read.
The IG disclosed that a special investigations team has already been constituted to conduct a “swift, thorough and uncompromising inquiry” into how the breach occurred.
Kanja further announced immediate changes to the security detail responsible for the President’s protection in a move aimed at strengthening protocols and sealing existing vulnerabilities.
“The security of the Head of State is a matter of national security and will be treated with the utmost seriousness,” he stated.
The National Police Service also warned that all persons attending public events involving the President and other national leaders must strictly adhere to established security procedures, cautioning that any attempt to breach security would attract the full force of the law.
The incident has sparked widespread concern and renewed debate over presidential security arrangements, coming barely two weeks after nominated MP Hon. Bishop Jackson Kosgei publicly faulted the President’s security team over what he described as repeated breaches surrounding the Head of State.
Former Presidential Security Expert Daniel Kibelion from Baringo had earlier described the Ganze incident as “unbelievable,” calling for an urgent review of presidential security protocols.
